Alarm?
Noticed the car hazard lights flashing for a period of time, went to have a look and this frosted u shape button below the rear view was flashing red.
No audible noise at all. I would be very disappointed if a 435 didn’t spec with a alarm from factory standard! Sat inside the car for 10 minutes shaking around with the car locked, but nothing seems to be going off.. Am I assuming it’s the alarm when this is a different function? |

Where are you? From what I’ve read in the US an alarm isn’t standard, I’m in the UK where it is. Also if you press the lock button twice it disables the internal sensors, if you have an alarm.

Press lock once. Walk away. Put the key down then come back and try to get in the car.

Also sat in the car pressing lock once, again I could hear some indicator noises (presumably the hazards) flashing but nothing on the dash. Opened the bonnet and locked the car, again after 5 minutes I pulled up the bonnet and kept shaking the car. Hazards came on but no alarm noise. Fuse next, then back to the dealership if that fails? The ‘manual’ doesn’t actually detail how to test, but instructs on what each locking mode should do on key fob press. |

I’ll be honest I’ve never actually tested the alarm in my car.

Haven’t had the car in sight today, but there is major construction happening. The type we can feel in our beds, almost like a weak earthquake. Heavy machinery operating.
I think this may have triggered the alarm, which is not functioning as I’d expect. Both doors, the boot and bonnet were closed/locked as they should be. I’ve seen the chirp acoustic is mentioned to be using the same component as the alarm? Can anyone confirm this? (Coded in, and works as expected) To make things clear, the interior light only flashed after the incident and not every time I lock the vehicle. Despite feeling the ground shaking from our rooms, is this enough to trip the same condition of the car? Last edited by KTE; 12-11-2018 at 04:52 PM.. |

I’ve got the arm/disarm chirps enabled and can confirm the chirp like a little bird 😀

If your key has a panic button, I would think that means your car has an alarm. Open your windows, lock your car, and come back after 15 minutes and try moving your hand around inside or opening the doors. Should trip the alarm.

Alarm isn't standard except on 340i here in the US. Isn't very good IMHO it isn't loud as it doesn't use the horn but the door lock chirp device or speaker that tries to sound like a siren. Also, it isn't connected to the connected drive so you don't get a notification when it goes off on your mobile device. It doesn't notify bmw assist or anything.

I have the panic button and the alarm. I haven’t tried to test it since one day I left the top down and locked the car. When I got back to the car I tossed my bag in the back seat and it set off the alarm so I know interior motion does work.

For those of us without factory alarm system...
Is there an aftermarket solution that you would recommend? Something minimally invasive on the cars electrical system. |

You could just retrofit the factory alarm. I believe all you really need is the siren and the roof mounted panel with the sensors, then just code it in.
