Nurburgring Nordschleife all-time record smashed!

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/m...ing-lap-record

The 35 year old record from Steffan Bellof has eventually been smashed by a super modified version of Porsche's Le Mans winner.

Can't wait to see the on-board footage of someone averaging 160mph round the 'ring!

I knew that they would smash it when I read that they were doing this...but by almost a minute...incredible.

Shame to see Bellof's record fall, I can still remember where I was when I heard that he had been killed and the shock of hearing it.

Also a shame I that the 919 isn't still competing - the years of LMP1 Audi/Toyota/Porsche at Le Mans were awesome, incredible machines.

Indeed. And for what... a pretend race series called Formula E

Still, it'll be going up the hill at Goodwood in a couple of weeks time I believe, so that will be cool to see.

Holy shit!

The acceleration is utterly mental.
The braking is phenomenal.
The amount of places where he is flat out is extraordinary.

Awesome , that rev limiter was getting a kicking at 367 kmh around the 04:50 mark.

I was amazed at how little the brakes were used.

Mucho respect.

Christ, that speed is on another level. One lap must be mentally draining at those speeds, never mind physically.

Holy shit he should give Sabine a lesson or five in how to do the ring fast.

I've never been but watched a load of in car videos. Seeing that was just incredible. The pace at which he went around bends seemingly flat out.

Wow

Epic.
But so much easier without the motorbikes, transit vans and the odd bus on route 😀

Apparently Toto Wolff had given it some thought to try and beat the time with the Mercedes F1 car, but looks like they’re too chicken to try unfortunately!

That’s more like forza or gt than real life. In fact has anyone done that sort of time virtually?

Was at a conference with the Porsche lm team and like f1 it’s basically a battle against the regulators. Amazing what they can do when unleashed.

Mind boggling. Both the car and the driver. You’ve got to have both copious skill and balls of steel to drive at that kind of speed.

Nurburgring is too rough for an F1 car, so not going to get anywhere near that time.

Yes indeed, or a screw loose!

Having said all that I'd love to know what serious bikers make of it, especially anyone that's don't the TT. Whenever I watch footage of the TT I have similar thoughts about how crazy fast it looks.
