Side skirt extensions -.fixing type?

I'm heading to a meet on Saturday but my carbon side skirt extensions arrive on Friday evening.

So I kind of want to be prepared to install before they arrive..

I usually grab stainless fixings so what length should I be looking for.. is there any benefit from more than 3/4"?

I plan to use neoprene.backed stainless washers under the heads and obviously 3m tape

Im thinking stout 3/4" self tappers will be adequate for side skirt extensions?.

if you're open to other solutions to mounting side skirt extensions, I went with a more OEM option. I used BMW's 6mm plastic pop-rivets. Just drilled like 15 holes with a 6mm(1/4in) drill bit, and popped these guys in. that's how OEM side skirt extensions are mounted as well. the upside, these are plastic and won't corrode, can be popped out and re-mounted any time where as self tappers will lose their strength once you take them off. Looks cleaner and more OEM underneath. Also very cheap on amazon:

by the way you should still initially mount the extension to your side skirt with a thin strip of 3M double sided tape (that's how mine are). this will help you mount and line up the extension, once that's done you can start drilling through both your extensions and side skirt, and popping these guys in. the double sided tape will prevent the extensions from moving as you drill as well.

Good call ill make sure I use the 3m. Did you mount the tape on the inside or the outside of the line of body fastners?

i believe it was on the outside of the fasteners, it’s hard to remember because my side skirts already had that thin line of double sided tape installed out the box. the side skirt also had circles where you should drill the holes, as you can see in my pic my fasteners are all in a straight line, it’s because the drilling template was already there. ironically enough, they came with 5 or so self tappers and not rivets or anything.

Since the extensions are so light and aren't going to be bothered I used stainless steel self tappers with 3M tape, I believe 10 per side. Been going strong 2+ years. If they were full side skirts like my last car I'd have used metal pop rivets. I like toxik's idea of the OEM look.

I envy all of you F30/31/32/36 guys with flat bottom rocker panels. For some reason BMW had to keep F34 different even in this - the rockers on mine don't have a flat bottom, more like a pointed corner with the inside long edge pointing towards the car bottom and not parallel to the ground.

The CF aftermarket extensions I have ready, don't fit well and I have to reshape them now. - This winter's project.

These extreme online skirts were an incredible fit.

I wound up using the provided fixings as the holes were pre drilled. They even had neoprene washers around the holes. Very well packaged and probably the best fitment of a body type part I've ever installed. They almost clipped into position so they flew on.

Gave the car a real muscular look.

Carbon kidney grilles, front splitter, eyelids, mirror covers, side skirt extensions, tail pipes and spoiler.

It's getting obsessive and expensive lol

Car looks great.

What about rear spats to finish the all around bottom look?

Similar to these but in CF to match what you already have installed:

Absolutely. They would look great. Got to save some money then get a set of those and the fender vent pieces. Possibly a rear diffuser in cf too because that will look weird now lol
