All of the newer BMW engines run lean by traditional standards. Even the S55 and the N55 in the M2 run quite lean until they richen out higher up in the RPM range. You're correct in that these new engines are shattering common tuning perceptions but this doesn't mean that what we've done is unsafe. We have detailed logs of ignition timing, throttle body position and intake temperature so we know exactly what the car is doing. I just did a quick search and found some dynos from Terry showing the fuel issue only when running ethanol. He has a dyno with 93 and meth that does not have the fuel issue like the ethanol setup does. Ethanol will require more volume to achieve the same AFR so it makes sense that the limit was hit with that setup. |

I am still very interested in knowing whether the fuel and timing can be manipulated with this tune.
I don't know what the big secret is. I don't need to know how or why or any trade secrets. I am just trying to make a decision whether I am going to order a product from you guys. If you care not to answer on the message forum, you can PM me. I've been told by Dinan that NOBODY can manipulate the fuel trims (and therefore cannot play with timing properly) with the B58 platform. (terry also states on the BMS website that the fuel cannot be controlled 'as of yet') I am just trying to find out whether Dinan and their competitors are trying to string people along to sell their product or if this is completely true. If the product that you are offering is able to control these parameters, it is a world better then the rest of the options for this motor and you would gain a paying customer. If you cannot release this info, then you can't. I understand rules and regulations, but I cannot imagine why or why not information about fueling and timing control is possible with this device cannot be disclosed. That would be a deciding factor in me purchasing this product. Thanks for any insight you can provide either now or in the future. |

I haven't used a piggyback device since the 1990s with a Honda VTEC VAFC and I realize this is more advanced, but it still isn't a modified ROM that says we want THIS fuel mixture, with THIS load and deliver THIS timing value vs other modifiers. I'm not condemning it though, i've never driven an AA or BMS device and they seem quite popular so maybe it works just fine even if it's a game of manipulation?

Other companies may be stating facts to try and sway you towards their product, but the fact that fuel and timing can not be manipulated is not an issue regardless of what they want you to believe. In a nutshell, as we raise boost with the Active-8, the stock ECU automatically adds fuel to target the proper AFR and also adjusts ignition timing to create a safe but powerful combustion. If you are being told that the stock ECU will lean out or ignition timing will be too high by adding a few pounds of boost with a piggyback, someone is lying to you. |

We should be able to start taking pre-orders on Monday. I had our 340i on the dyno for a bit today and saw a glory run of 388whp after letting the car cool for a bit with the fan in front of it before doing a pull.
