The hardware is made by a private company to our specs. The firmware and maps are created by us in house.

I'm having trouble finding additional info on the tune......I'm sold on the power but just curious on shift harshness. This my daily and I'm not sure I'd like shifts being harsher in comfort mode (especially)

Ignition timing various depending on intake temperature and boost, but the line does not drop drastically which would be a sign of knock.

Other companies may be stating facts to try and sway you towards their product, but the fact that fuel and timing can not be manipulated is not an issue regardless of what they want you to believe.

In a nutshell, as we raise boost with the Active-8, the stock ECU automatically adds fuel to target the proper AFR and also adjusts ignition timing to create a safe but powerful combustion. If you are being told that the stock ECU will lean out or ignition timing will be too high by adding a few pounds of boost with a piggyback, someone is lying to you.
I appreciate the information. You answered my question. Thank You.

I understand the stock DME compensates for boost, fuel and timing, but if someone (AA, JB4, Dinan) was able to manipulate the fuel and timing, which seems like nobody can at this point.... the ECU tune gains would be similar to the N54/N55 motors, which as you know were MUCH higher due to them being able to be fully manipulated.

The B58 is much stronger motor, with a little larger turbo, yet the tunes are being restricted because of everyone's inability to control the fuel and timing curves independently. Unless I am not understanding correctly.

My N54 335i with just a tune and air intake picked up almost 90hp and 80ft lbs on 93 octane a few years back with just a JB3 (at the time).

I am hoping that someone is able to ultimately control those parameters to make the tune gains closer the gains I had in the past. I don't know if this will be something that continues to be impossible from all tuners, but I am hoping someone figures it out.

None of my statements are made to knock anyone's product, David. Its nothing personal and I mean no ill will by anything I am saying.

The N54 engine big gains on stock car were not due to the ability to manipulate fuel. It is due to the fact that the N54 came detuned from the factory and a lot of power was left on the table. Keep in mind that on the N54 a simple boost controller like the JB+ yields a lot of power just by adding boost and not changing anything else

No offense taken

Assuming we're only running pump fuel, why do you think that the tunes are limited by the lack of fuel and timing control? The AFR is clean and the ECU does an excellent job of running as much timing as safely possible.

The B58 with our Active-8 is making pretty much the same power as an N54 with full bolt ons on pump gas only.

Full fuel/timing control isn't necessary unless you plan on making quite a bit more power with different fuel or a different turbo.

Here's our latest dyno compared to a stock run done on the same day.

It connects to three sensors including crank position on top of the valve cover along with the map sensor on the chargepipe and the tmap on the intake manifold.

How does one go about changing the map when new mods are added and new maps are available? Also, can a local dealer (http://store.activeautowerke.com/pages/dealers) make a custom tune for it?

This is what I want to know. I saw in another thread that they don't have a car with MPPSK on it to do testing. can you do it remotely? If so I'm willing to participate to find out.
