Hi,

Have a question about its usage. Once installed, the modes can be controlled via an iphone from what I gather. I have a few questions about how it works.

1) Are the Dinan tuner modes linked to the mode selected in the car (Eco, Comfort, Sport and Sport+)?

2) If not, can you use a sporty mode for more power when in comfort mode in the car?

3) I tend to drive in Sport 90% of the time (10% in comfort). I hardly ever use sport+ because it holds the gear longer and I rarely get a chance to drive on a road like that. Does this mean that I won't be able to get max power out of the tuner since I don't use sport+?

4) If the settings of the tuner are independent, is there a disadvantage to setting it in Race mode all the time (or the next level down)?

5) do you have the approximate HP/Torque gains for the different modes?

and lastly ... 6) How badly does this affect gas mileage?

Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to get the most info i can before purchasing.

Furthermore, do you offer software upgrades to fix bugs or enhance features since this produce is new?

Same as the N55 SPORT unit actually. +2 PSI (sport), +3 PSI (sport+), +4 PSI (race).

1 & 2. SPORT modes and the driving modes on the car are unrelated. Driving modes will function just like they do now but they will have access to more power in each of the modes is all. You can always turn the unit to bypass via the app as well if you wanted to retain a true "comfort" mode and then switch it back on to whatever setting when you wanted some additional performance.

3. You have access to all the power in all the modes technically. However the car is more lively and responsive when in sport+ as most of the artificial nannies are removed in that mode.

4. No. As long as you are running 93 octane or higher there should be no downside to running it is race mode all the time.

5. Varies by vehicle and engine but in general terms on a 6 cylinder engine each pound of boost is roughly 7-10 HP/TRQ.

6. Fuel economy is completely dependent on your right foot. If you are in boost more often then you will be using more fuel. If you retain the same drving style as pre-tune, fuel economy should be largely unaffected.

Don't know if the SPORT one has been tested directly but I have to imagine it has as the ELITE unit that is due out in the near future (shameless teaser) has been tested on an MPPSK car (same tune/results as the M240i). Would imagine they would have installed a SPORT unit for verification in that same stint since it would have been convenient to do so.

SPORT is not update-able in the field on the hardware/firmware level. The app gets updates from time to time but the simplistic nature of the boost controller itself doesnt really lend itself to require any real tweaking. However, in the unlikely event something were to come up and firmware/software needed to be updated for the unit to function we would do something so users weren't left high and dry.

Great to hear the forthcoming Elite unit has been tested with the MPPSK. I believe on the N55 platform there was a seperate Elite unit optimized for the MPPK, is that likely to be the case on the B58 as well?

Just installed

I just installed it today. The install was easy and took about 15 minutes. I ended up using twines instead of the zip ties it came with so i can easily remove the tuner before service.

I didn't get to drive the car much yet, but my first impression of it is that you can definitely feel the difference when pushing it. I can now hear the turbo spool up and tiss when i let go of the gas, which is something I never heard before. It sounds pretty cool, but hopefully doesn't damage anything. I guess this is normal?

I haven't received any check engine lights, or had the engine overheat on me yet (and hopefully this never happens), but my test was limited to 5 miles. I won't get to drive the car until next weekend so thats when i'll give an update. I am installing my M performance exhaust tomorrow morning, so the next review will be based on having both of these installed at the same time.

Sports Tune Test B58

Had mine now for the last four weeks. I would say it's a mild differences. What I notice from the start is that you can hear the turbo now spooling up, as for power increase, this tune is mild. Yes it will spool up the turbo a little faster, but for me, its just a mild tune.
I probably will call Dinan to see if I can get credit & trade up to the Elite.

$300 Mild Tune at the most a (TRUE)10-15 Hp gain at the most, same with Torque.

Also, The Dinan App. needs some work.

I think they were simply offering their impressions about power gains rather than any actual testing results.

Not questioning how they how they feel about the tune, but it may just be that they had unrealistic expectations for a 30 hp gain.

I'm not sure what the previous guy is experiencing, but with my car it feels more than 40 hp. In race mode my car surges ahead so fast and so instantaneous. I do have a mid pipe, exhaust and intake and perhaps the tune along side with the ecu has learned how to maximize gains from the bolt ons. The stock ecu itself is self adaptable afterall. I couldn't be happier with how my car transforms in race mode. My advice to the other guy is perhaps his drivetrain setting wasn't in sport and shifter wasn't in sport. Anyway like I said before on my car, with my set up, the tune awakens everything. The car absolutely flies. I sacre the shit out of anyone who comes for a ride with me. Man I'm stocked about this tune. The boost comes in hard and fast. It's a great tune guys

Agree with 420hp. I've had my DSport now for 4 months and could not be happier. Extremely simple install and best bang for the buck hp/torque gains. The app is the only weak point--it works fine for setting boost levels, but the real-time data stream for the boost gauge leaves a lot to be desired. I only use the app now when I want to change boost levels, e.g. when valet parking.

I installed a Dinan Sport tuner in my 340iX today but can't get a bluetooth connection (iPhone 7 with bluetooth 4.0). I tried with power on and engine off, as it says. Couldn't find the module in Dinan app or under settings>bluetooth connections. The LED on the module is steady red if that matters. I took it for a test drive and didn't notice anything different. No CELs. Any suggestions?

As silly as this may sound, did you download the dinan app?

Yes, not silly at all, but I have the Dinan app. Couldn't find the bluetooth signal using the Dinan app or going through phone settings.

Does anyone know if the LED on the Dinan module should be steady red, does it flash with a connection, turn blue, etc? Mine's steady red.

Right now I have the Dinan sport tuner disconnected, but still in place, just running stock until I get it sorted out.

You connect it via the App not the phone. Make sure your car is on to connect it. Also make sure you have the correct app

That was it, I had the wrong app. I was using an app called "Dinan", but it works fine now using "D-Sport". Good catch goj.

I'll give it a proper test on my way into work tomorrow.

I have had mine since Friday and the boost is quite great! Simple install and the extra pull Is very noticeable.

I connected the D-Sport app to my Dinan Sport module without any password or pin or anything, which is concerning. The installation instructions say to take note of the last 4 characters of the MAC address to establish a connection, but these numbers weren't needed. Any one else have any issues with this?

The sport module should have some type of bluetooth connection security.
