You don't need a power supply. I think it's just recommended to maintain the battery charge level. I didn't use one at all, the flash only took minutes so the battery would have hardly drained.

Update: Alpina successfully flashed to my 335xd.

Bumping up this thread and looking for some help..

I followed the procedure as above, edited 3E51 and 920,9XA and when I read SVT from VCM all my modules are showing blue and I cannot flash anything?

Any ideas please?

Thanks for the guide just did this on my mapped 30d.
Went through it all the first time before realising I needed PSDZData full not lite doh! There’s a couple threads on here where you can post and be sent the link to the file on mega, the one I had was 170gb, if you tried to download it as a free user it was capped at 5gb a time with hours wait inbetween. I wasn’t happy with providing my card details to the site so I downloaded their app and paid for one month sub using apple pay as it was only a few quid. Left it on overnight to download no problems.

Took a while to find compatible ESYS and PSDZData versions though as a couple combinations showed the istep shipm as not available. The latest PSDzData Full only seemed to work with ESYS 3.30.x not the older one although I didn’t seem to require any token.

One problem I did have was that I couldn’t select ‘blflash’ against the EGS as a number of boxes including that one were greyed out? Not sure what difference it makes as I completed it and it seemed to work - I’m getting the gear numbers on the dash in comfort mode which I didn’t before.
Not convinced the box shifts at good points for the map though, but the only other option is paying £££ for with xhp or a custom box map

If blFlash was greyed out then it probably meant it didn't need to be updated, depends on the age of your car.

The map is designed for the Alpina engine tune which puts out 350bhp/700Nm so if your 330d isn't making that power then it might not shift at the optimum rpm.

My remapped 335d is at 360bhp/700Nm and the shift points seem ok, but I've nothing else to compare it to.

That's good to know thanks.

Yeah I didn't have the optimum shift points before either due to the map, but at least with the Alpina one it shifts smoother and I can see the gear I'm in which for some reason I found extremely frustrating before!
May try the xhp one at some point when I get bored with the current set up

Massive thanks to bishbosh who sorted us out today with the Alpina flash on the f31 335d. I have to say the car is completely different to drive. Didn’t really think it would make much of a difference but it’s so much smoother and changes gear when it’s suppost too.

Thanks mate

There is a post on boost addict - this forum seems to want to ban any links to threads on that site for some reason.

Edit: go onto www . boost addict . com without the spaces obviously and this thread: showthread.php?87518-DIY-Power-Supply-for-Flashing

I got most of my information from there.

Personally I wouldn't. The spec doesn't give any meaningful info, it says 'Electric: Yes' no shit sherlock. What you really want to know is how many amps it can deliver at 14v - which is the ideal voltage for a car power supply (and the same voltage bmw use in their power supplies) Also apparently there is a variable resistor in the little box, I'm hoping this isn't an inline one, for something delivering high amps it should be using a current shunt. Sadly all this info seems lacking.

From a software developer perspective the steps involved in coding and flashing are quite logical and do make sense. For the charger I can describe how I made that if required, although I appreciate not everyone will want to build one.
Thanks for that guide. Am i correct in thinking that a soon as you flash this you then go back and change your Typeschlussel back to the original one. Cheers

No, because you aren't actually updating the typeschlussel on the car. You change the one in memory you've read from the car which is then used to calculate which ecus need updating.

Because you aren't updating the Vehicle Order there's nothing to reset.

Hi, You might be able to tell that this is my first attempt with E-Sys as apposed to Bimmercode, but do i still change the Typeschlussel to3E51 for my 2014 F30?
Thanks for your patience.

Yes you would. I can't remember exactly when the type code changed, I think it goes on build date as I've flashed a couple of cars with the same year but with different type codes.

If you pick the wrong type code then when you come to do the calculation you'll most likely find there's nothing to update as it won't find the correct ECUs.
