Front end knocking noise

So my F31 has developed a knock on the passenger side suspension area going over bumps, standard m sport suspension, got it booked in yesterday at the dealers who shockingly only had a mini clubman available as courtesy car. Dealer rang yesterday afternoon saying yes we can hear the noise & it isn't right but we cant find it. So car collected as there was no way i was keeping the mini & booked back in next week for a full strip down of the front end & after some insistence a proper courtesy car.

Any ideas from your fountains of knowledge on possible outcomes?

When mine had this it was an anti roll bar drop link, but that would be easy to see if they looked.

Has your car got adaptive dampers ? If so, there are several threads about this.

It may be worth mentioning to your dealer to apply the QE (quality enhancement) software patch for the dampers. My dealer has confirmed that suspension clonking has been cured on several cars that have had the patch.

Car back in at BMW, i have been given 7 seat 218d GT as a courtesy car. Which a full on family mobile. BMW are keeping my car for a week to try & resolve the issue. Although the technicians comment that "they would just keep replacing parts until it is fixed" doesnt fill me with to much confidence.

That's exactly the approach my dealer took, but now the QE isodtware update for the adaptive dampers is official I'd be pushing for that approach.

Mine is a Dec 2012, and the dealer service manager has confirmed that the QE patch can be applied to mine. He also confirmed that a couple of recent M140s have had the patch and the suspension clonking has ceased.

Apparently the patch changes the timing of the damper valve actuation.

Don't be fobbed-off by your dealer's service dept - if you want the patch, make sure they do their homework and find the QE. My dealer is categorically clear - it's an official QE; it does exist.

Picked my car up from the dealers last night, the internals on the front shock absorber had broken hence the knocking noise. So a nice new set of shocks for the front end under warranty.
