Just to add to some of the good tips here.

You really need to use the right tools for the job. The most difficult part is drilling through the steel of the brake.

Like others have said... Use a Center Punch, this shouldn't even be optional. If you ever drill anything, you should almost always use a center punch. Harbor Freight sells one for $2.50 I think. I've used it for a while and it still works well. When it gets dull, get another one.

Next BIG TIP I don't think anyone has mentioned: USE OIL on the drill bit. Use a sharp bit (I used milwaukee bits, nothing special) and oil that sucker. Oil keeps the heat down, and allows the bit to get a good cut. I used 3 in 1 household oil.

Using these tips, I installed the pedals in about 20 minutes. Have fun!

1. The 'star pattern' is called a Torx Bit. The brake pad screws can be tightened with a T-15 torx. The nut on the back was held in place with a 7mm socket.
2. The three brake pad FINAL drill hole sizes were made with a 5/32 drill bit. After using a dremel to pilot the hole, I started with a 1/8, then 9/64, then finished with 5/32.
3. The drill hole for the gas pedal I used was 3/32. Nice and snug screws again tightened with a T-15 Torx.

Hope this helps.

My local dealership was running a parts special for M Performance items, so I picked up a set of the F30 M Performance Stainless Steel Pedals (Automatic). Couldn't find a detailed DIY on the forums, so here we are. Was an easy install taking me less than 45 minutes to complete.

The MSRP for the pedals are $150 and I paid like $116 with discount then taxes. I know that is an absurd amount of money to pay for a set of pedals but it adds a very nice touch to the interior of the car to which this F30 driver feels should have came standard with the Sportline, but I digress.

Okay, so you'll need about an hour and a few tools to complete the task:

- Power Drill (I used an old school corded drill because you have to drill holes into the brake pedal)
- Drills
- 7mm wrench
- Flashlight
- Screw driver with a star pattern bit (I will post a picture of the bit)
- M Performance Stainless Steel Pedals (#35002232278 Auto)

Attachment 852705

Here is what you get inside the box for the pedal kit:
Attachment 852707

This is the stock pedal setup in my 328i:
Attachment 852708

Your first step is to remove the stock rubber brake pedal cover.
Attachment 852709

And here is the naked brake pedal:
Attachment 852710

Next find the nuts and bolts included in the pedal kit (3 nuts and 3 bolts) and find a drill that is a little bit larger than the bolt. The bolt needs to slide freely through the brake pedal to thread into the nut on the opposite side. Once you have found the correct drill bit, go ahead and put just the rubber portion of the M pedal on. There is a lip on the inside of this cover that the brake pedal needs to fit under in order for it to line up properly. Once the pedal is aligned, take the drill and make some starter holes on the pedal. The starter holes will allow you to remove the rubber M pedal and continue to drill without ruining the rubber. It takes a little bit of elbow grease and time to get these holes drilled through the carbon steel pedal. This is a picture of two holes finished with one to go to give you a general idea:
Attachment 852711

After all the holes are drilled, you can put the rubber M pedal cover on and then place the stainless steel part on and thread the bolts through attach the nuts to the other side. As mentioned earlier, the bolts are a STAR PATTERN and NOT PHILLIPS. Here is a picture of the bit I used:
Attachment 852713

On to the next pedal, go ahead and take the time to clean the stock plastic pedal to ensure good adhesive contact. The M gas pedal has an adhesive backing that has two screws that screw directly into the gas pedal. We just have to drill some small pilot holes for the screws to thread into first. So go ahead and practice putting the M gas pedal on and see how it lines up because I believe once you stick it to the pedal you won't be able to remove it.

Now that you see how it lines up, go ahead and remove the adhesive backing:
Attachment 852714

Find a drill bit that is slightly SMALLER than the screws provided. If you drill this too big, the screw threads will not grab to the plastic and you have wasted your time. With the correct drill bit selected, go ahead and drill some pilot holes. Once they are drilled, go ahead and use the star pattern screw bit and screw them into the stock gas pedal.
Attachment 852716
Attachment 852717

Your completed product should look similar to this:
Attachment 852718

And here with my rubber floor mats placed back in to complete the look:
Attachment 852719

Overall, this is a very easy install that if you take your time and be careful should have no issues with. I would rate this a 2 out of 5 in terms of difficulty because of the drilling factor. Again, BMW should have included this in the Sportline and M Sportline but they didn't because their German formulas didn't compute. Good luck.

Thank you

Just curious if anyone can offer fitment of the dead pedal if you're using Weathertech floor liners, the digital fit ones.

Does anyone else have any reviews of the no drill replicas they sell on eBay? For 40 bucks I'm trying to figure out why the genuine bmw drill pedals would be superior.

Just finished up the install of my pedals super easy thanks to this thread. However I couldn't for the life of me get the footrest to fit. The parts department at my local dealer was also stumped as to why it didn't fit and has ordered me a new one. Anyone have any ideas or insights as to what could be the problem, the footrest seems to be an inch too long to possibly fit. Thanks

I even added the "dead pedal" footrest and have that on for about 5 months without any problems

See, challenging implies that it was difficult at first, which allowed me some opportunities at learning and ultimately becoming better, then success and finally triumph! None of that happened here. Just plain tedious little task that was difficult and ultimately annoying to complete.

Attached picture of broken screw head, me cursing and a scratched finger.

.

How do you like them for the MT? i'm thinking about getting them for my 340i MT but afraid that it won't have enough grip

Hey Guys, I couldn't find an F80 post for these pedals but wanted to share my install. I didn't end up screwing the pedals in but got them to sit on tight and crazy glued the brake metal piece on. I will keep you guys posted if it stays on haha but it was a quick install this way. Eventually I will screw them in so they will never move.

Done

Got these done over the weekend. Definitely recommend following the above guidance in starting small and then increasing bore to 5/32 for the brake pedal drilling. The gas pedal is a breeze between the adhesive and the anchoring screws. Just do yourself a favor and get a 7mm socket to hold the nut to the back of the brake. Far too easy to cut your finger tips otherwise.

Totally agree that M Sport cars should have these from the factory and that they are over-priced for what is included...but the finished product definitely spruces up the M treatment.

Let's face it...none of us bought BMW to save money...

Got these off amazon $26 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Took about five minutes to install

Just slip off the old rubber one from the brake pedal and replace.
The gas pedal one just slips right over the existing pedal.

Only tool I needed was a small screwdriver to help with expanding the rubber along the back edges to slip it on

Fit very snug and secure...tried to give it a good shake and tug to see if the would move, but they stayed very tight.

Funny thing is I thought they were the screw in type, so I started researching install and found this thread(very good write up btw OP) then I open up the package and was like what? Oh well...looks great and only took five minutes

Already had the footrest (dead pedal) so this definitely helps complete the look.

Made a total mess of my brake pedal. Somehow I managed to drill the hole on an angle and now the screws wont fit through and I don't know how to straighten them. Damn it..

Going to go to a shop tomorrow to try and have them make the correction to the holes and fit the pedal. If not I'll have to give up and put the original brake cover on i guess :/ sigh.

If that doesn't work others have mentioned knock off styles that look identical available on eBay and they do not use screws.

Just found this thread after today buying online the foot pedals (brake, accelerator & footrest) and also the M Performance mats (front & rear) - all original BMW.

Your post is the first one I've seen with the M Performance mats and now I'm glad I got them. Are you happy with yours (looks like they give that extra bit of bling, but not too over the top).

Only got my 340i last Saturday, but I've done plenty of reading of this forum and got in my head what to add to give a wee bit extra 'pizzazz'

Hi

Changed the pedals & floormats yesterday (all BMW OEM), looks better to me (before & after shots below).

The brake pedal was a nightmare, finally managed to complete the drilling but the screws are too short (15mm supposedly) and can only get the backing nut onto the top screw - can't get any thread through the back of the pedal for the bottom 2 screws (I've ordered longer screws via eBay and will try them when they arrive).

For those with the rubber covers like these (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stainless-S...72.m2749.l2649), how did you install them? I expected it to be an easy pull over but it's tighter than it seems. Any trick to it?

Stainless Clutch, Brake and Gas Pedal upgrade observations

[QUOTE=daberlin;15018359]Greetings - Just completed the brake pad/gas pedal upgrade. Easy task, took about an hour. Take your time, pilot your holes carefully and you'll have no problem with this job.

A few comments to the otherwise useful DIY above:

Regards, David

THANKS DAVE!

Your suggested progression of drill bit sizes made drilling the brake pedal quite easy. Titanium drill bit is key.

Another poster has suggested an Automatic Center Punch to pilot the holes, and that worked great too!

I just did the upgrade on my 2020 230i, which has the 6-Speed manual. The Clutch pedal was not a problem to drill, because it's made of composite, not steel.

The brake pedal for the manual transmission is much smaller than the automatic. BE CAREFUL not to drill into the pedal arm when working on the single upper attachment hole. TRY TO DRILL THIS HOLE AS FAR TO THE RIGHT AS YOU CAN, because it is a real PAI to get the nut lined up on the back of that hole. It WILL clear the pedal arm, but you need to be patient (and you will be frustrated if you have large fingers) getting the T15 screw threaded on to the nut.

Gas pedal and foot rest were just attached with adhesive over existing ones. Gas pedal is polymer, so the two screws just grip into the polymer (no nut on backside). BE CAREFUL and do not over tighten the pedal screws, because they will strip out of the polymer. They don't need to be torqued down hard. The adhesive holds it all in place quite well.

Here is the full, three-pedal plus footrest look, for those of you who don't realize that "Real Cars Don't Shift Themselves"

+1, no drilling. The brake pedal is a bit tricky getting the fourth side, but otherwise it's a very easy installation. It includes a hex wrench, the only thing you use that for is to loosen the bolts to get the protective film off the pedals, then tighten them again.
