I'm actually surprised more people don't do that with the manual 4GCs that can only be found north of the border.

The 3er Gran Turismo outsells the equivalent 3er Touring in North America.

Also when you think of its success of 130,000 units since its introduction in mid-2013.
Exceptional for a low volume niche model with a projected 10% of combined 3er sales per annum. It has comfortably exceeded that.

Its a niche model, but it has its market. Besides I can get a full boxed patio set in the back seat of our 320d xDrive GT.

Ah, looks like they stopped selling them in MY2016, because only 17 or so got sold prior to that.

Here in the UK (with our background of a high percentage of MT sales) we don't get an option for an MT RWD 340i touring, only AT is available. Clearly there is no real demand, and/or trimming emissions dictates the way forward.

Then we are used to the bigger diesel engines being AT only, for saloons, coupes and tourings. MT is being dropped from more models as we move forward.

it is a sad trend but for diesel I totally understand the automatic, I've got an x5 35d that I adore.

Agree AT does suit the diesels, plus the high torque would require a very strong almost commercial MT. We in the UK don't even get an MT option for the M5, only the DCT is offered.

Time will tell if we'll see a second gen 5GT or 3GT...

For North America, the number of Touring available is severely restricted because of the high demand for it in other parts of the world. For example, Canada is only located 500 Touring per year, 250 each for gas and diesel.

You manual tranny lovers need to wake up and smell the progress in technology with the automatics. Automatics in most cases are just as efficient, effective, and fun to drive as a manual plus you can drink your coffee while doing it. Unless you have a serious high performing vehicle (aka an M...) then enjoy the shiftless drive and "feel" the car by holding the steering wheel with both hands. Geez.

I read on an Australian car website that Apple CarPlay is coming later this year but wont be available at the initial launch of the LCI 3 GT.

It's at least a visual improvent over the previous model, especially in Sport guise. I think the extra length really helps in that regard, smoothing the rear out a little.

Recently drove an X3 loaner while our 3GT was serviced. There was noticeably less leg room rear and front (front seats needed to be forward to accommodate rear facing car seats).

While I still occasionally wince walking up to the car from certain angles, the utility can't be beat. Cargo space is also fantastic; was able to fit 29" & 22" luggage, full size stroller, travel stroller, and a few grocery bags.

Not bashing the GT...but if I had to choose (which I guess I did) between the GT and a GC, I'd choose the GC every time. The rear seat room is 6" less in the GC..but my 6' 210lb son seems to fit ok if the front seat is pulled up a bit. It's still tighter in front with the sunroof as well compared to his mom's 335 but he isn't paying for the car . I don't come close to using up the 46cu ft of space (seats down)...so the extra 10cf in the GT is lost on my use.

Yes and it will be exceptional. Slightly longer, more sleeker. A first class environment as per previous model with the luxury and attention to detail of a 7er. It will be launched in just under a year.

I did a quick search the other day on autotrader.ca and I've found 32 Touring for sale versus 13 GT. I already been trying in the past to get sales numbers from Bmw Canada but they refused. That said I highly doubt that the GT is selling much more than the Touring. A lot of GT owner bought them because there was no 6cyl Touring available anymore. So maybe there is a higher profit margin on the GT so Bmw want to push them:.

It seems to me that BMW is in a search for a visual identity. With so many unique characteristics in their heritage, this is what they come up with?
The new design language is just.... plain?

If success is measured by customer satisfaction the GT is a winner. The majority of posts in the F30/32/36 forum consist of complaints of one sort or another. The vast majority of posts in the F34 forum are from well satisfied owners.

As someone who has only recently "discovered" the 3 GT as I look towards a possible replacement of our 5 year old F25 X3, that's something that has struck me as I've perused the various forums.
