4x4Shop.ca F32 10.25 Screen w/ PX6 Android 8.1 Oreo
**Reserved for future/pending review
Specs - CPU: 4 Core Cortex-A9 Processor - 2GB RAM /32GB Storage - Working Volts: DC10.8 - 16v - Working Temp: -4f - +158f (-20c - +70c) - Display: Digital HD LCD Capacitive Multi Touch Screen - A/V: 1080P - Network: Built-In WIFI *For those who ordered CarPlay Dongle, before launching, first check for updates to App and/or dongle by doing the following (with your phone NOT plugged in): 1. Open AutoKit App 2. Click on "Settings Gear" upper left side 3. Click "Check for Updates" If updates to either App or Dongle are available, they will be visible Immediate observations after install (after first day).. - Easy Install - Screen is QUITE good...PERFECT fit and GREAT quality (as if OE) - Easy to navigate, no system crashes and/or "lock ups" (as of yet) __________________________________________________ __ 1. Either their dedicated "AutoKit App" or the CarPlay dongle is buggy as I can't get CarPlay and/or WAZE to run consistently. Also, I'm unable to listen to Podcasts as it starts and immediately stops. - UPDATE 12/6: Had outdated firmware...downloaded update and will test this weekend - Update 12/18: Over the last few days I had been trying new features via CarPlay to determine other issues. First thing to test was the "Podcasts" app. It opens with no issues, however, once "Play" is attempted...it immediately stops. I notified 4x4shop.ca of the issue, they responded within 24hrs suggesting I remove the head units BT network from my phone as it's a known issue their "engineer" is working on. This seemed to have corrected the issue. Since I'll be traveling with the car Christmas week, I'll have more time to thoroughly test. - UPDATE 12/21: CarPlay is still quite buggy (freezing/crashing)...not sure if it's the "AutoKit" App, Dongle or both that are buggy. For now, I'm just going to use the head unit (Navigation Tile/WAZE) as it's quite stable. 2. Navigation App is not locating hotspot network within system (Head unit/Android) - User error. Should've been looking for phone in available "WIFI Networks". Once phone was located and saved, I experienced ZERO issues getting Navigation App (WAZE) to locate network and run during 5hr road trip)... - EDIT 11/26: Head Unit's Navigation (Paired to WAZE) works F A R better than CarPlay once head unit pairs to phones network. No bugs and/or crashes after 12hrs of drive time to date. Also, Head Units Navigation audio plays normally, I'm able to listed to my iTouch via armrest USB at the same time without Navigation lowering music volume (I have optical connection option). Unlike CarPlay which audio plays via AUX only (when not buggy) 3. Tethering is a "dead" option (not sure why) 4. After vehicle went to "sleep", then initial restart, a few times I've had to reset time/date - This seems to have been corrected once head unit auto logs onto my phones network. Maybe I'm wrong...I haven't had to correct time/date after I saved my phone as the WIFI "network" - UPDATE 11/26: Definitely the case as I've witnessed the time auto correct to current time once unit pairs to my phones network (was a complete coincidence - definitely NOT the case) - UPDATE 12/21: After spending approx. 25hrs of drive time with this Head Unit, time Auto Correct has NOTHING to do with unit's WIFI pairing with my phone. Time Auto Corrects approx. 10-15secs regardless whether the WIFI pairs or not. Drive Time Updates: - UPDATE 11/28 (Total 16hrs Drive Time): Oreo 8.1 is still quite stable...ZERO crashes and or issues thus far. WAZE App downloaded to head unit, then paired to Navigation Tile launches and runs without fail or crashes. However, audio via optical connection is "hit or miss". Audio functions 100% when AUX is chosen tho. - UPDATE 12/21 (After approx. 25hrs of drive time): Oreo 8.1 is still quite stable with Z E R O crashes...specifically using WAZE via the Head Units Navigation Tile. Only annoyance is the amount of time the head unit's WIFI takes to pair to my phone for WAZE to locate Network...other than that (and buggy CarPlay), so far so good . Also, I'm able to listen to Podcasts via CarPlay and launch Navigation via Head Unit at the same time. Audio set to AUX for Podcast, Navigation audio works via AUX or USB __________________________________________________ ____________ I must say however, their customer support is GREAT...I've been communicating via email with quick responses...they can also be reached via phone Unfortunately this is not my daily driver (road trip car) but, I will post up a more detailed Review after I've lived with it for solid week or so... Blurry image for last photo is my inability to properly focus, not the screen .. .

I listen mostly to my iTouch via OE USB connection. However, I have listened to the courtesy 'Fast n Furious' Trailer loaded onto the SD Card via the AUX output (systems audio output). Sound was impressive! Cranked was pretty intense.. I also have the following upgrades tho: - BimmerTech Audiotec Fischer PP82DSP AMP Retrofit - BSW “S1” Speaker Upgrade - BSW Under Seat Ghost Subs .

Once again, I apologize for the shitty photo quality...it's my inability to take a proper photo...NOT the screen quality! EDIT: Just have to make sure agent "hot spots" from phone rather than tether I haven't been able to get Android App to launch while tethered to phone .

Tested out the following...Google Maps, YouTube (App & Web) and Netflix (Web). Did not test Pandora as I don't have an account...nor am I interested in creating one .. Google Maps: Launched from head unit, Navigation operation is perfect. No freezes and/or crashes. Using CarPlay however is another story...still buggy. YouTube: App and Web launch and work as well as your broadband will allow. No issues with launching...however once launched, you're at the mercy of whatever cell strength you have. Netflix: Seems as though the Netflix App does not support Oreo quite yet. However, it can be launched from the website. Same applies to YouTube experience. Hope that helps you..... .

Thanks ronanz! Are you using a GPS splitter with factory GPS antenna, or third-party GPS from 4x4shop.ca? If third-party, where did you mount?

GPS antenna provided with head unit/kit as I did not have factory Nav. I mounted antenna just behind right corner of screen between bottom right corner of center speaker and top right corner of screen...kind of the flat spot mid-dash (if that makes sense). Was kind of a bitch to get my hand in there as there's not much room. Prior to placing I felt around a bit to find a flat spot to mount. I chose to apply commercial grade velcro to surface area first, then applied mating side to antenna. Figured velcro made more sense incase I had to move later for better signal strength...other than a cut up hand, zero signal issues so far .. EDIT: 4x4Shop does offer a GPS splitter if needed .

Ah so if I’m understanding correctly, you put it on the under side of that area so it’s hidden? Or do you mean just right on top of the dash behind the right side of the screen?
Also, with YouTube and/or Netflix video, does it stretch to the whole screen, or maintain aspect ratio and use black bars on the sides? Any A/V sync issues? |
