CASTROL vs MOBIL ONE

Ok, so my 07 Passat has always had CASTROL Synthetic every 5000 miles since new. ( We are the original owners)It now has 156,000. We just bought a 2015 328i with 14,xxx miles. Which oil is preferred? CASTROL or MOBIL One? I still plan to do oil changes every 5,000 miles.

Brands don't matter. Use an oil that meets the requirements in your owner's manual, an LL01 or LL01 FE rated. For other viewpoints:

If you change oil every 5k then the LL spec (LongLife) is meaningless.

I dont think you could go wrong with either of your suggestions so long as they meet the weight/viscosity requirements suggested in your owners manual.

Ive had great luck with Mobil 1 0w40 euro formula but recently switched to LiquiMoly 5w40 for a Blackstone comparison.

You can see how well my M1 lab results fared if you search the forum for my Blackstone report.

Will be sending in the LiquiMoly for comparison in about 1500 miles.

I run Castrol European Formula 0W-30 LL01 and it's been great so far.

Also a great choice.

Both this and the M1 SAE (euro formula) 0w40 are recommended in my owners manual. Double check yours to be sure.
