There were two different boxes used with the M235i Racing. The first year of the M235i Racing Cup (2014) featured the standard ZF 8HP45 and had updated software only. The 2016> M235i Racing featured a 8P45R and this was a somewhat different box. The most important modification to the 8P45R compared to the standard volume production 8HP45 is that the 8P45R transmission does not feature a hydraulic torque converter or the associated lock-up clutch. The pulling away or drive-off process is implemented by internal shift elements with a vibration damper upstream from the gearbox input to prevent damage through engine oscillations. The gear ratio spacing is also closer and the rev drops between gears have been reduced. Normally only the first six gears of the 8HP45 gearbox were used when racing, but in the new 8P45R all eight gears are spaced for optimal use.

With this in mind if you were to look at reflashing the box of your production car you'll need to ensure the software was for the earlier 2014 8HP45 gearboxes and not the later 8P45R.

I'm hoping to get ZF to agree to sell me a 8P45R for a project I'm working, if they're no keen I'll be using their new Anti-Stall Clutch connected to a Samsonas sequential and XAP e-Shift...either way no more clutch peddle.
