Not mine. I've tried to see when it shifts and it does 500 before redline. Won't hold like your graph says.

Really? You have Sport auto transmission? Maybe it's not the same if you don't have that or at least SAT coded.

Wait... You're saying "see when it shifts" I'm talking about sport + and full manual mode where you control shifts not the computer..... Not sport + and still in full auto...

On my wife's auto 320i we coded SAT and in sport + on manual mode it holds the redline until we shift. On my 228i with SAT and paddles same thing. Interesting.... I'm interested to hear if you have SAT coded, and others experience.

My apologies.

If I put it in Sport+ and move the shifter to the left to switch gears on my own it will still shift shy of red line. I have the 8spd tranny. Not sure if I am in the mode you are talking about though. I just know no matter what I done, it shifts :-)

Interesting. Do you have the SAT or SAT coded into your car? I wonder if that's the determining factor here

Among other items, SAT removes auto redline shifting in manual mode. I have SAT coded. If the car auto shifts in manual mode then you do not have SAT.

Good to know, not that I ever choose sport over sport+, it's either sport+ or comfort for me.

I don't remember if I coded SAT to be honest. I know Sport+ is a little annoying as it hangs if you accelerate at the high RPMs longer than it seems to be safe after you take your foot off the gas. Anyone else have this issue?

Lol, so let me get this straight-

You bought a car, failed to buy an extended warranty, drove the car past factory warranty coverage, and are now pissed BMW won't pay to repair it??

Haha, okay. That's exactly what the warranty is for. You drive a car past factory coverage with no protection, you're on your own. I'm sure this was explained to you very clearly when you purchased the car. And I'm sure being a lawyer, you understand it 110%.

The engine *shouldn't* have failed with such mileage if it were properly maintained, but at the end of the day, it's a byproduct of human design, and humans aren't perfect. What would cause you to think BMW is responsible for it is beyond me. You had an opportunity to protect yourself from such occurrences, and didn't. That's on you. Be happy they're willing to extend any help at all.

And good luck with Audi reliability, haha.

It's true, BMW's job is to sell cars, granted I feel like they've let their brand slip a little, they're not really producing the naturally aspirated inline 6's anymore which are known for their longevity. In any case, if your warranty is up, you're SOL. I think due to the fact that the car is still only a few years old they should try and help him a little. Especially since his motor failed due to a cheaply made part, that BMW knows is prone to failure.

So you would be 100% OK if every BMW motor you bought grenaded after 4 years or 50k miles (whichever came first)?

Lets extend that to everything. Buy a used car? Don't expect it to last one mile. Buy used parts, expect it to fail immediately.

There is an expectation that with proper care things should last outside their warranty period (to a reasonable degree) with any car, especially one as mass produced as a 3 series.

Post like these make me wish for the days of the N/A I6s some of which have 300-500K and are still running without major component replacements for the powertrain.

I'm afraid BMW is getting better and better at .... obsolescence engineering with every generation of cars. The end of life for certain components seems to be closer and closer to the end of warranty (I've heard this is working well on Audi A4 which are service nightmares beginning with their 4th year...).

Sad. I've almost bought an F30 (and my heart still wants it) but, the more I read, the more an Acura TL AWD, 305 hp (2012 to 2014) is getting sweeter ......

Regards,

John

I don't believe that at all and the two folks I know with B8 A4's have had pretty reliable cars. If you turn out ot be right and my F30 turns into a pile at 50k then I guess I'll sell it.

My head gasket on N20 engine blew with only 52,000 miles on it.

Couldn't agree with you more. BMW needs to stand by their product. This is absurd.

If I could go back I wouldn't have bought the F30. Head gasket blew with only 52,000 miles on it. No mods.

I do love BMW's (on my 6th 3 series) but sorry to say their reliability sucks!
