F36 Brake upgrade to M Sport
Hi all
Have been searching on here and elsewhere regarding upgrading my standard brake kit to the m sport set. I own a f36 420d gran coupe m sport. All is m sport from factory apart from the brakes for some reason Unfortunately when the initial owner was going through the m sport package, seems they opted out for the m sport brake kit Being a small engine size I guess my existing set are the more basic standard set. I've sourced a complete used (nearly new) set of m sport calipers, pads, discs. Have also purchased new reinforced brake hoses. From my research it's all should have bolt on. Fronts went on ok. Rears seem to be an issue My existing rear discs have the handbrake size of 185mm. The M sport discs that are 345mm diameter can only accept a 160mm handbrake shoe. Much smaller that what is already fitted. Is the answer to just purchase a new 160mm hand brake shoe and spring fitting set ? Will the new 160mm handbrake shoe bolt straight onto what there abs then the m sport disc fit over that all with no issues ? Also, behind the handbrake shoe is some sort of mounting disc. Is this required to be replaced also ? See image. Any help will be appreciated, especially if you've experienced this or know exactly what I'm trying to explain. Also, I've had conflicting info regarding if these brake upgrade requires coding or not. Most mechs have said no. Even 2 local BMW dealers have said it's not required. But the consensus on the forum is it does. Any input on this also. |

I think you can buy aftermarket 345mm discs with the smaller size for the handbrake shoe.

I've looked online but can't see anything suitable that I can order
Discs will probably cost £150 and up I can buy a new handbrake shoes and spring holder kit for about £40. I was wondering if other parts would have to be replaced also? If not I can just change the handbrake shoes |
