Hesitation and Super Knocking code JB4

I had previous hesitation problem at WOT in low RPM (WOT 2000rpm to 4000RPM). I just installed the JB4 and ONLY if Im in 3rd gear and I do WOT at 2500RPM the engine will cut for half a second and throw a hidden code (no check engine, MAP 1). Then it will hesitate (like a rocking chair) but after 4000rpm the car pull super strong. If I do 1-2-3 (6mt car) at WOT car pulls strong.

I can reproduce the problem almost every time and it will throw a super knocking code (cylinder 2 and cylinder 3).

I filled up the car with 94 octane gas, my tank was half empty, previous gas was shell 91 + Octane booster + Bmw injector cleaner.

Spark plug are brand new (M4 spark plug gapped to .20)

Mods are only : JB4 Map 1, Injen air intake, 335i rear exhaust

Also is this the right JB4 Firmware ? for a 2012 328I 6MT PWG N20

JB4 makes the car run lean like high 14 to mid 15 AFR in the mid range. Car pulls timing and than AFR's drop to safer zone around the 4.5k mark to around 13's AFR but still lean. Remove the JB4 and run the car stock and see if this happens again. Also if this is just happening might be bad gas.

I'm having nearly the exact same symptoms. I have jb4 stage 2, fmic, and dp. I can only find 91 octane so thats whats in it. I was running map 2 for awhile but it was so hit or miss on how well the car would accelerate Ive gone back to map 1. I have not pulled any codes form the jb4, only code that came up on the cel was a bad MAF im assuming could be from when it was removed for a month while I was trying to see if that would help.

Basically it's done this about a handful of times. Ill take off from start bury the pedal, the boost will come on, power gets cut for half a second, super knocking and black smoke, then the power will come back with full force. It has done this once while rolling on WOT and the other times from 0-WOT. It has been pissing me off to no end. I have ran injector cleaner through the tank and i now have 2 gallons of e85 in it to see if that will make a difference. Eventually I will buy the cable to diag the jb4 but i just find it ridiculous for nearly 600 bucks this cable wasnt supplied and BMS specifically tells you you cant buy any other cable.

Run lean? Isn't that consider dangerous? What about standard piggyback like jb+ or stage 1? Will that run lean as well?

My afr is perfect I only run lean when the super knock happen as the car turn off fuel injectors.

My car pull strong if I do WOT over 3500rpm, its mostly on 3rd gear if I WOT at 2000-3000 rpm it will start to build boost than cut for half a second than it will pull normaly (when it does it, If I scan the codes with the jb4 I will see a super knocking code). Witout the jb4 I still have hesitation at Wot in low rpm but will not throwh super knocking.

I dont know what is wrong yet

Also it will not cut at all or hesitation if I WOT 1-2-3-4 gears like a drag racing, it will cut only under sever load at low rpm

You're lucky your engine hasn't blown. Get a flash tune so you can at least run safe AFR and timing.

Have you found anything out with your codes yet? I just had the same issue happen to me last week after getting a catless downpipe installed. (Jb4, air intake, dp). Went to test out the new power and somewhere around the 3rd to 4th shift, heard a loud engine noise like metal rubbing together, car stumbled and cut power, then took off. Checked the codes the next day and had knock, super knock, injection system shut down etc. curious to know if you have gotten anywhere towards a fix

Check the clamp on the downpipe and where it meets the mid pipe. Ensure there are no air leaks. I checked mine and while its wasnt really loose I was able to tighten the clamp a good bit more. Havent been having any hesitation issues since.

Thanks man! I had it installed at a shop and don't have a way to get under the car currently. I purchased two different sets of ramps and they both would have required removing my front bumper. Which isn't a big deal, but I felt lazy so I paid the shop to do the work for me.

Fortunately you can tighten the clamp where the downpipe meets the headers from above the engine. With the engine cold feel along the headers till hit the downpipe, then feel for the clamp going around it and you will find the bolt securing the clamp, I believe its a 13 or 14 mm.

Anybody else out there throwing super knock/injector shutdown codes?

I have seen these codes thrown twice since going bootmod3 stage 2/91 octane on f30 n55 pwg.
