Are Smoked Headlights a Bad Idea?

Hello all,

I want to upgrade my OEM (2014 328i) headlights and get something that will be brighter as well as more visually appealing. I found a set of "M3 Laser Style Smoked" headlights on ebay and I really like how they look but am wondering if them being smoked will be to much of a negative as far as making the lights dim at night to be worth it.

Any input is very much appreciated, also I will link the product that I am considering below.

Thanks!
Jonas

BMW H7 headlights are legendary...for how bad they are. The last thing I'd do is to make them worse.

Sorry, not my cup of tea... the halos do not have good light uniformity - you can see individual LEDs behind them. There are better choices (in terms of visual appeal) of 3d party headlights available on Aliexpress, imho. The tinitng can be done with wrap (a lot of people do that on their OEM headlights anyway).

Is it legal in your state? Although nowadays the police only goes after you if you commit murder...even then only selectively.

Probably not legal - nowhere is as it is alteration to the safety feature of the vehicle.

In Ontario people get warnings and then tickets on repeat stop for license plate protectors if they are tinted (covers are sold in stores). Just last week, co-worker got pulled over in morning rush hour traffic for that - no other offense. And while at it, the officer says "Your window tints look too dark. Here is the Warning". Next time he gets pulled over - he will get charged for tinted windows (legal level) as well, because there is record of the warning in the system. How crazy is that?

Vanity doesn't over-rule sanity. The larger question is why illegal accessories are allowed to be sold? I'm sure they have a 'for off-road use only' disclaimer on the packaging, but still...

Different worlds. Always found Ottawa (Ontario) more peaceful and safer when I worked there, albeit the trade-off is a nanny-state mentality.

Here in the DC area police is probably happy that they do not get shot at when stopping a car, so pimp-mobile tinting and 130 decibel mufflers are their last concern.
