OBD Scanner: BlueDriver vs iCarly
Which one should I go for? I know iCarly offers coding, but I already have the laptop and cable setup, it'd just be nice to have it on the go, but not a must. My main concern is the ability to see codes, a description, and recommendations. And gauges of course, for live monitoring.

I have the iCarly and it does everything I need it to do and is super easy to use. Keep in mind though, after buying the it, you still have to download the "full version" software. I think it is $59 for the full version software (annually).

I have both Blue Driver and Carly. Bought Blue Driver first then decided I wanted to use my phone to code and make it easier. Carly reads things that Blue Driver won't. I should have saved the money and went with Carly first. However, I now have a problem that Carly messed up my seatbelt auto tensioner. If Carly messes something up, you can't really fix it with Carly.

Thing is, I'd recommend Carly if you have to get only one. Because Carly will show you extra file codes that Blue Driver doesn't. Carly shows faults which are kinda important, but it will also show you less important messages. As far as I remember Blue Driver only shows the faults. However, how valuable those file messages are is debatable. I have a few messages something along the lines of I have a less than .5 leak in my purge tank, my high pressure fuel injection is low pressure, and my coolant temp has a mismatch "firmly lying". Don't really know what to do about those things and they will not clear. Then again I didn't have those messages until after I did some coding with Carly so I am not sure if the coding caused it or not. Undoing my coding didn't make it go away. They are both good and cost about the same but Carly can code while Blue Driver can't. The value of Blue Driver is it's supposed to have detailed info to tell you how to deal with specific faults. But it can't read all the info that Carly can. |

What OBD2 adapter are you using?
Stoker15,
What adapter are you using? I hate to spend the $82 for the Carly adapter when there are much cheaper adapters on the market. On my 2006 E90, I was able to successfully use a generic ELM327 adapter with the Carly software. The E90 used the K line (ISO9141)bus. I believe that newer BMWs use the CAN bus (ISO15765) and may use the "User"buses on pins 11, 12 and 13. Thanks Wally |
