I'm a fan.

He is said to have brought in a full staff of analysts, scouts, coaches, etc to help him modernize and adapt his playbook and offensive schemes to better suit the NFL of today. It was also announced he is bringing on a 14 person analytics team for help with in game play calling.

What makes me weary of him is this tweet though... What did they do? Eat Ice Cream and talk about boys all night?

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
New Cowboys’ HC Mike McCarthy stayed over Jerry Jones’ house on Saturday night, per source. “Once you stay at Jerrry’s house, he doesn’t lose his guy,” said source.

Only time will tell, but let's just see how that translates in Jerry's world. Hopefully he will have a bit more control over the team.
i was never really on the urban bandwagon. Id much rather have a coach thats had some success in the NFL vs one that seemed to quit when it got tough for him every stop in college.

I'm just now seeing that Clowney hit on Wentz.

That absolutely without ANY questions, was a late and malicious hit on the QB. And you already KNOW I have zero love for the Eagles! But that MF should have been ejected.
And I will not be surprised at all, if he's NOT allowed to play next week. In fact, Hawks should plan to be without him.
I don't believe he is a dirty player, but that was intentional and dirty AF.

Last sentence is the key. If Old Jer doesn't give up more control, it won't matter who the coach is. Coaches have come and gone....the one constant the last 23 years is Jerry Jones.

As far as the McCarthy hire.... I am optimistically encouraged. Here's why...

.1. A definite upgrade over Garrett.
2. McCarthy has made multiple Playoff and NFC Championship appearances.
3. Won a Superbowl.
4. That Superbowl run, Aaron Roger's was fucking UNSTOPPABLE! And I hate that guy lol. He will definitely upgrade DAK in a huge way.
5. McCarthy is said to have a literal team of analysts and assistants who constantly provide feedback on every detail of every play and opposition.
6. This signals that Jerry wants to Win Now rather than gamble on the College level.

So what will truly restore some hype and confidence for me is the removal of Special Teams Coach and New Defensive Coordinator.

James Jones is on NFL Network saying how the COWBOYS have struck gold. That is one respectable and stand up player.
Since Mike calls his own Offensive plays (which I'm perfectly fine w3) this surely means the removal of Kellen Moore. Unless he's kept on for title purposes.

nah wasnt malicious. Clowney was lining up to smoke wentz in the gut before he got tripped up and fell forward. wasnt targetting his head on the ground.

if wentz had given himself up, then yeah it was malicious, but he hadnt.

most likely he will be kept on for title purposes. mccarthy calls his own plays but has always had an OC help him with gameplanning.

would be great for moore to learn playcalling under a guy like mccarthy, while providing some new ideas to mccarthy in regards to plays/schemes.

Apparently Mike has taken the last full season surrounded by multiple coaches and staff reviewing all sorts of new trends and analytics of the game. I didn't realize he moved his family from Wisconsin and stated that he wanted a clean slate in every aspect of his life.
Again, his resume speaks for itself. But I want to see multiple staffing changes.
I'm encouraged.

All this cowboys coach talk sounds like a 2020 thread topic. We are still in the 2019 PLAYOFFS thread here.

Not that it matters much in OT.

Marcus, you know I'm just poking you for fun, sorta

Edit: just saw it on NFL.com

This is very encouraging and the fact that he admits and realizes change is necessary, says much about his character.

Check this out:

No worries Unc. You and I share mutual respect and fondness for one another..

Obviously this Cowboys news is ginormous and a long time coming!

But I'm still about these playoffs and season.

Great coach or not, McCarthy has always been a class guy.....
My daughter, who is a huge Packer fan, has been following this story since this morning. She just told me that one of the big reasons McCarthy wanted the Dallas job was to have January and February off.
