Does that not throw up a fault code as the electronics will be trying to open / close in different modes and it will be fixed open? Just a thought.

AFAIK, its pretty dumb. The MPE has a resistor in place of the actuator, so I suggest that if the unit is drawing current when it should, then the ECU will be happy. I removed my horseshoe clip and wired the flap open. Didn't really make that much difference TBH. Note that if you do this, and then want to reconnect, the actuator won't be in the correct place. Its a stepper motor and I think it just gets timed pulses to operate, so the unhooked actuator will overshoot as the stop is the flap. You need to turn the actuator shaft so it lines up with the position of the flap. You can use a screwdriver in the slot (with it off the car! ) but be aware it is very stiff to turn. When I did mine, I had a "spare" in case I broke it. I didn't. Currently have on an MPE, so no flap. MPPSK due to be fitted when this current situation calms down. So will have a stock and a modified system to sell 😊 |

Did this mod today on my 440i GC, the 2019 model has a slightly different shape to plastic trim where to OP fitted his termination block.
I had no issues getting the flap to stay open, just a few revs in sport + and then turned the car off. I added some black gaffer tape over the exposed contacts to protect it from FOD and moisture getting in and causing a short, the position is such that it would deffo be in the firing line. Also fitted the black chrome exhaust tips at the same time.

I have a rear box delete on my 35d. So no back box just splits to twin rear pipes near the sub frame I'd be tempted to do this if there is a flap in the section from the manifold to rear sub frame area. |

The flap is on the 340i back box and not on the 335D exhaust.

I noticed my flap on my 2015 335i F31 didn't seem to open ever, certainly not whilst stationary in any mode or with revs. I've pulled out the clip and tie-wrapped the flap open (as tightly as I can as it can rattle like mad if the tie wraps or wire loosen), and I like the extra volume. Ideally I'd have a controller to open and close it at will as on the motorway it's a touch louder than I'd prefer with the family in the car, but overall I think this is loud as I need it to be
