Pop Master Radio 2 - Who else plays?

I'm guessing a few people on here are Radio 2 listeners, try to listen to Pop Master when we're working but always in and out the van so don't always catch it.

Making a point of listening in whilst i'm at home and rather enjoying it, think it's a real asset to Radio 2.

What's your average score? - mines abysmal at about 9 and I never seem to quite get 3 in 10 too

I've scored as low as 3 and once, just once (when most of the questions were on 80s music or I guessed) I got 36!

Very rarely get the 3 in 10.

I think it must be so much harder doing it for real.

Switzerland off the retirement list.....

"If you do get coronavirus, what sort of medical intervention do you want? This is the debate in Switzerland, as infections rise sharply.

The Swiss Society for Intensive Medicine says the elderly should think about drawing up living wills, and discuss with their loved ones whether they want to be put on ventilators.

It sounds shocking, but Switzerland is the country of Exit and Dignitas, and it is widely accepted that individuals have the right to decide how they die.

A third of Swiss already have living wills, so families know their wishes in the event of serious illness or injury."

Since retiring nearly 3 years ago my wife and I tune in for this nearly every day, I know I know!!!!

We’re really good with the 70/80’s stuff and get some obscure answers plucked from way back. Best scores are the high 20’s usually mid teens but seldom get 3 in 10.

Yeah not so bad with the 80s stuff and getting the years - keep meaning to ring in but under pressure think I'll do worse than at home!

You could get awful questions or really good ones - I think over the past couple of months they've been particularly harder!

I tend to listen if I'm in the car at half ten, not often these days. OH usually listens if she's mucking the horse out. She's an absolute encyclopedia when it comes to one hit wonders so on a good day she'll be into the high twenties or low thirties. Really must get her to go on one day.

My radio claim to phone is doing a local music quiz back in the 80s on Radio Hereward and clinching it by recognising Linx - Intuition. Got a bottle of something cheap and a year's free entry to the local tacky nightclub.

In the 80s my Nan won a vest with "Girls just wanna have fun" written in pink neon from Hereward Radio!

And she had to go to the office in Peterborough to collect it!

I've been to see them twice though, and was due to go in May again! However don't think that'll be happening now.

Which 3 songs did you go for?

West End Girls, it's a sin and always on my mind.

Yeah, I had tickets for the NEC.

Gutted but it will be rescheduled.

Well done on the 3 in 10 but both sets of questions were really hard today. Both contestants only got 6 points each I didn’t do much better

Yeah I thought they were both hard. Got 6 points also, along with the Versus question, i'd of only done the same as the second player!

Sure the questions have been pretty hard recently

I don't listen to it, but the scoring has already blown my tiny mind

3 in ten is good (a win?). Six points is bad.

I will have to tune in one day.

A normal question is worth 3 points and you get 3 bonus questions worth 6 points each for a maximum of 39 points.

Then the winner does '3 in 10' which is name 3 top 75 hits by a particular artist in 10 seconds. This is surprisingly hard!

Then at the end of the year there's Champions League Pop Master where the highest scorers over the year, normally people who have got 36 and 3 in 10 or 39 points battle it out to be Pop Master Champion!

Today's scorers on 6 were particularly bad!

Hope that's all clear to you,

Taken from Wikipedia - Explains it well.

Each contestant is asked ten questions based on popular music from the 1950s through to the present day. Correct answers to the questions are worth three points, other than for the third, sixth and ninth "bonus" questions on a topic chosen by the contestant, from two options offered by the host prior to the start of the quiz. The bonus questions involve listening to a snippet of music and, if answered correctly, are worth six points. There is, therefore, a maximum total of thirty-nine points on offer.

The winning contestant then goes on to play "Three-in-Ten". In this part of the quiz they have ten seconds to name three UK Singles Chart hits for a particular artist or group named by Ken Bruce.

Gets quite addictive.

Just done today's. Only 3 on the first round but 15 on the second

Helped by knowing Stanley Burrell and being clued up on The Beatles.

Not sure if I would have got the 3 in 10 or not having already read the answers on here.
