B58 Lurching Upon Shift When Cold

B58 crew with ZF8 speed tranny -

I am experiencing a very noticeable lurch when accelerating past 3500rpm in sport+ mode when car is cold. Lurch happens upon first and second gear changes.

Anyone else feel something similar?

And then people wonder why they spin their rod bearings.

You should always let your car reach operating temps before doing any type of hard accelerations. You can potentially damage something, so play it safe and always let it warm up first.

Operating temps is all well and good. However lurching at 3500rpm is not normal. 3500rpm is hardly pushing it.

6MT, but I never shift past 2.5k when it's cold. Really not past 2k when it's really cold for the first minute or so of driving. I also let it sit for at least a minute on startup. My gearbox is notchy AF when cold, and I would expect the ZF8 to not be performing the best either. Let your shit warm up lol.

Make sure your fluid is topped up, otherwise yes let your car warm up.

Not saying to sit in comfort mode all the time but unless you're in Sport+ and in manual shifting mode to keep your shift RPMs low as everyone else mentioned, do try to avoid Sport and Sport+ as the DME will keep the RPMs high and that isn't ideal while your car is still warming up.

I have a similar issue, notably at slow speeds like in my apartment's parking garage between 1-2 shifts. Doesn't feel smooth, 2016 340i at 38k miles. I will probably change the tranny fluid soon to see if that helps.

Have the same, tried fluid too, did not help. Adaptations reset, did not help. Throttle reset, did not help. Tranny flash to xHP, did not help. Thinking about maybe having a ZF shop change out the solenoids...

You're an idiot for revving that high with engine cold.

Yes, a fucking idiot.
