Trying Aritaurus method above with E-Sys, but am getting the following error:

"Base variant not determinable. Check diagnostic address. [G175]"

I'm using the following data for CIC:
- Diagnostic Address: 0x63
- Base Variant: HU_CIC
- Application number: 27
- Upgrade Index: 0x1

Any ideas what could be causing this?

That is only for Activation of a Retrofitted Head Unit where Head Unit VIN & FSC Codes do not match car VIN.

Yes, but being able to create whole new FSC codes to match one's VIN would replace the need in getting a cable like that, right? Or am I missing something?

I'm planning on doing a NBT Navi retrofit.

There are many different FSC Codes in Head Unit, of which you can only generate one of them, thus for retrofitted Head Unit you still need the activation module.

help with a e89

Hi all, I've spent the last 5 to 6 hours reading all of the posts on obtaining the FSC but am having problems determining the exact procedure for my 2011 Z4, an E89.

Will someone kindly confirm if I should be buying the Enet cable or the k+dcan usb cable? I have not been able to find anywhere that has any specific reference to my car, so I'm hoping some generous soul will help me out.

ENET Cable is for Fxx use only.

For normal coding and diagnosis of Exx cars, you would use a DCAN Cable. However, you cannot read 1B file from CIC with DCAN Cable. Instead you need an expensive ICOM Interface. And, you cannot use E-Sys to read it either. You would have to use a program called SWID Reader.

No, I don't think so. All Exx owners I have ever heard from cannot read it with DCAN, and those with ICOM can.

I'm still not able to see the region code and region number in that file... Is there a setting in Notepad++ I need to change in order for it to display those characters?

You need a hex editor. I used HexEdit.

Notepad++ will do it if you enable the Hex Editor plugin.

I have BMW F10 530xD (2013 year pre-facelift). Here are the steps I went through updating my map. I have professional navigation (NBT - next big thing). Originally the navigation had Road map Europe Next 2013. I downloaded Europe Next 2014-2, formatted 32 GB stick with FAT32 filesystem, copied the files and plugged into the usb port of the car. The car started transferring the contents to the internal hard drive and after one hour successfully updated the map. On the next restart of the car - it wanted the activation code. I wasn't able to extract it with SWID tool so I used Ariataurus method with the following settings into E-Sys (downloaded E-sys from http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4662346 ) - (there are installation instructions within the torrent):
- Diagnostic Address: 0x63
- Base Variant: HU_NBT
- Application number: 0xDE
- Upgrade Index: 0x1
I successfully extracted the FSC code and saved it to a file - FDZ17056_000DE001.fsc.
Then downloaded BMW_CIC_NBT_FSC_Generator from https://mega.co.nz/#F!ugo0HB5L!TPCmejMKPBlRRkz2SDvg0Q. Extracted it and then went to NBT_fsc subdirectory. Then issued the command
fsc FDZ17056_000DE001.fsc 0xA9 0x05 last_seven_digits_of_you_vin_here
and got the correct activation code. The correct parameters for map Europe Next 2014-2 are 0xA9 and 0x05.

1) Connect - ok
2) Read VIN - ok
3) Read FSC - Total bytes: 0 !!!!
Why do I get this error ??

I've read my FSC method with E-sys and Ariataurus, then I tested two versions

Post 110 kitster, OK

Post 133 by locque, OK

I get the same unlock code for all of the two methods
