What noise was your car making im seriously hoping this fixes the problem man
Sounds like tire noise to me so I thought it was that but the dealer said rear wheel bearings. Getting it fixed next week after my new wheels arrive so I can get an alignment while there as well

It is not that bad as yours, but i have a non very well reproducable alternating hum, like a helicopter noise and a general very loud constant whistle beginning with 35 mph, constant up to max speed.

Thought tires as well, but have the exact same behavior with winter tires as well.

Yeah that's how it starts

but I wouldn't take it to the dealer intill it was like insane the loud was so annoying

If you sat in the back of the car you can hear and feel the noise

like almost even a vibration

You need a large bearing separator/puller, bearing race/seal driver kit and a press to put the new bearing into the hub. You do not need to remove the axle from the differential to get the bearing out of the hub.

If you have the tools to do it and have done it before or on other vehicles it should not be a problem.

If you have never done it then I would recommend a professional do it for you.

If your car is under warranty still then have the dealership do it.
Would you be able to provide a link to each of these tools you ended up using?

just had a rear offside wheel bearing changed on my F31 330d Touring, £313 at my local indi garage. bearing £41 rest is labour.

Symptoms; speed related humming noise, worse when you lean on that side in a corner.

car done 70k miles, all by me, no memory of clunking that corner on anything 🙄

How much did your repair cost?

see above 👆🏻for approx independent garage bearing costs.. your dealer costs seems excessive, unless you have an extremely expensive wheel? 😳

Wheel quote was $423 (for a single). I have the 416 luxury wheels

I am having a hard time getting formal quotes from independent garages in my area. All of the shops I have called have not done this repair before... does not give me confidence.

Also the prices they have informally gave me were not enticing.

I drive about 100 miles per day in the car so I am kind-of in a corner here. Unless someone gets back to me today, I will be taking it to the dealer later this week.

Also deezeedee335 linked me to the following tools for his DIY:

https://www.harborfreight.com/automo...set-62593.html

https://www.harborfreight.com/automo...ator-3979.html

https://www.harborfreight.com/10-pie...set-63261.html

Someone uploaded a Youtube video of their rear wheel bearing install.

Replacing the rear wheel bearing does require popping the axle shafts out of the rear diff which also requires a $400 special tool.
The tool isn't necessary. I've got an L shaped flat nail puller (Tekton 3305) that I hose clamped to the axle, and then put a pry bar between it and the differential. It pushed out really easy.

Was on a roadtrip today and it just ruins the driving experience

When I had this it was driveshafts with a specific pitch around 109km/hr. Bearings go up and up in noise.
