How do I reset the Navigation? / GPS is WAY off - shows me 10 miles away
Hey Guys - I could use a hand or tips.
I've got a 2015 435i Coupe. 2 days ago, visited a local mall. One the way there, navigation map was functioning normally. We pulled into the parking lot around 4pm and went into the mall to eat/shop. When we got back to the car at 10pm, the navigation map showed us 10 miles away. I thought that it would eventually recalibrate itself with a few on/off starts. No. I disconnected the battery for a few hours. No. So it's 48+ hours later and I'm still 10 miles away from actual. The navigation is orienting ok... it turns, pulls in sites of interest, gas stations, etc. But doesn't pinpoint where I am. Is there a "reset" for positioning? Thanks! Hey guys - just updating this post. The dealer tested the GPS antenna at the trunk. It worked fine. They assumed it was the head unit, replaced it. Problem persisted. I bought a $15 OEM antenna off ebay and plugged it into the head unit. Problem solved. There's 3 main pieces to the GPS system - head unit, cabling in car, and antenna.
To test for GPS issues, the easiest way is to get a $15 OEM antenna. It's a universal piece sold on Amazon, ebay, whatever. To test the antenna, remove the headunit from the car. Plug in the new ebay antenna into the headunit. 1. If GPS returns the issue is either with the car cabling or rooftop antenna (this was the issue with mine, I just used the ebay one and installed it in my dash. Pulling the stock cabling and GPS roof antenna is a nightmare.) 2. If GPS still is down, your head unit is likely at fault. So how did I fix my issue, I ran the EBAY GPS antenna inside the car, in-side the dash. The antenna sits in the gauge cluster and plugs directly into the head unit - thus disconnecting the factory GPS. I did NOT replace or remove the factory GPS antenna or wiring because it's A LOT of work to pull wiriing. Last edited by exE36M3; 05-17-2022 at 04:58 PM.. |
