some have been buying blank shells online and paying people to transfer?
not sure why this is a thing these days. My key goes in my pocket at the beginning of my day and doesn't come out till the end of the day. I never hit the buttons on it or need to look at it. lol was at a bar years ago and some guy had his fob on the bar and kept flipping it. i laughed and he said what?! i just said you're trying to show off your 2006 325i that's in the parking lot? lol. |

I never found the F33 fob ugly or big. Comfort access helps I guess.
I do have the new style key that came with my F39. It also just goes in the pocket and I never use the buttons. But to each their own. It’s your money. Spend it as you want. |

Also, bear in mind the OP may or may not have comfort access. If not, you would be forced to handle the fob daily. That may be worth the upgrade for some. Past few cars I’ve owned, I do personalize the key fob. In my case, it’s just a protective cover. I rarely need to look at, or use it. No one sees the thing other than myself. However, it does protect these increasingly expensive components from damage and is a small contribution to the tapestry of additions that make the car my own.

If you have to routinely use it on a daily basis, it may be more rewarding for some to change the look or feel of it. For others, maybe not so much.

Not for me, the only time I'm even aware of how it looks is when I take it off the hook I store it on to put it in my pocket, and when I return it to the hook after returning home. What I'd like to see is case with embedded GPS chip, so if somehow lost it I could find it's location, the same as I can with my phone. They make Bluetooth tags, but those only have a range of maybe 200 feet, and they're so big you could probably see the tag from 200 feet anyway.

My 2015 X1 fob was much smaller and slimmer than the fob for my 430. I always wondered about that, things usually get slimmer/smaller as technology improves.

I'll keep my "ugly bulky". I'm fine with that. Functional and trouble free.
