Just keep up on fluids and get regular service and it should treat ya well.
I did my suspension at 90k and felt like a new car off the lot, highly recommend doing that as mine where completely shot. Shocks only last about 50K anyway, after that people just get used to the rougher ride and don't think to replace them.

That's good to know!

I have all the front control arms, (rears on the way) and bilstein b6 shocks for front and rear going in soon, so I imagine it's going to be pretty drastic lol. Can't wait.

A grand worth of parts will go a long way with refreshing the suspension if you shop around online.

Haha it’s all good. I’ve called out phdat28, aka Goldilocks to contribute to this thread but looks like he’s disappeared into beer o’clock zone.

Just landed a remote job so the f36 won’t be subject to DD duties. Might take a while to get to 200k and beyond but I’ll be traveling a lot this summer to NY and FL so we’ll see if I take the e90/f36 or CTS.
Last I checked, your mom and still an idiot.

Currently on 105k miles. Keep an eye on the timing chain when you pass 100k but imo n20 is a great engine

I've never been left stranded by any model of BMW even with almost 280k miles.
I thought "properly maintained" was what BMW recommends such as 10k for oil changes so that is what I have been doing. However my mechanic, after opening up the motor, thought it had not been changed in a long time. He recommends 4k oil changes and based on the condition of the oil on the broken parts, I think I will be following that advice.

That makes no sense. Perhaps your dealer didn't actually change the oil? I did 17k OCIs the first 50k miles and now I do 8k OCIs. Engine is just fine. Check my Blackstone oil analysis report here (they suggested I try 10k next time because oil still looked very good): https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ght=blackstone

I'm thinking maybe I should change my own oil. That way I can see it's condition when I drain it.

I know for sure when I lived in the southwest my dealer never changed my cabin air filter even though they had it listed in the final bill (free to me due to new car complimentary maintenance). I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same with things like oil changes too.

Good idea on DIY but wouldnt bother with worrying about its condition when you change considering...

You can get quality oil and an OEM filter for under $40 USD. Change it every 5k miles like clockwork and your looking at $100-$200 annually. Cheap piece of mind in my opinion vs. trying to squeeze every last mile out of the change. Not saying 7k intervals is the worst idea ever but 10k is unnecessary and almost abusive IMHO.

Hit 189k this morning. Plugs/coil packs just replaced, along with the serpentine belt and throttle body cleaned.

Just hit 140.000 miles on my 2013 320i with the N20. Has been tuned since 100.000 miles and it runs like clockwork. I'm going to change the oil this weekend with Ravenol VMP USVO since I've read some good reviews on it here in Europe.

Edit: TC + oil pump + pump chain done at 100.000.

Yeah no point going 17k miles on an oil change:

1 - Its a turbo car that burns oil ( alot of turbo motors do when you give them a workout ) Esp if your cars tuned ( mine has been tuned since 65k and im at 109k ).
( when I change my oil I dont get out exactly what I put in even accounting for oil staying in parts of the engine )

2 - FCP Euro = Buy the Oil Change Kit 1 time and only pay shipping on each oil change after

3 - The known issues with Timing Chains / guides issues on these motors that many have said could be OCI related.

Even if its just for piece of mind with the N20 or any Turbo performance motor, change your oil its the best cheapest preventative maintained you can do esp when FCP will do a warranty return ( they advertise this ) for free.

Got mine with 61,000 miles and it now has a lil over 156,000 miles on the clock. I've had it for 3 yrs. and I drive it all over. The only major work was I had a timing chain replacement kit put in. The rest has been minor upgrades (turbo inlet pipe, boost pipe, oil pan, etc., etc. to replace the junk stock plastic parts that will eventually fail). She runs great and is solid.

Awesome, My oil pump is whining until it warms up but chain seems tight and once warm the noise is gone and she rips.. I hear you can have the oil pump whine and not have a chain issue.. So ill monitor and go from there.. Im really not in a rush to sell or upgrade since the car still looks new inside and out.. Just has a whiny oil pump until warm. I hear the whiny pump and chain issue are seperate issues, You can have a noisy pump and never have a chain issue.

- Start Stop has been disabled since 45k miles
- Been Tuned since 60k
- Oil changes every 7-8k w/ Liqui Moly since 50k

Currently @ 109k no issues outside of the pump whine before warmed up.
