442m 19 inch square tire size for winter driving

I decided I will not entirely want to park my 17 340i this winter...i'd like to occasionally drive it throughout the upcoming winter.

i drive a range rover in the winter but when roads are bare and dry up here in Canada i'd like to drive my 340i...i know some of you will suggest buying a set of 18 inch winter wheels.

I wanna keep the look of the car the same what square tire size should I go with that would fit on the stock 19 inch 442 m wheels??

staggered winter tire set seems hard to find...well unless if i pay a fortune for sottozeros lol

Would you swap & rebalance the tires at the beginning and end of every winter? Seems like a lot of hassle to maintain aesthetics. I don't need winter tires here in California, but I assume most people have a separate winter set to avoid the unmounting/remounting every season. The money saved in tire shop visits might be better spent on an inexpensive set or dedicated winter wheels/tires.

well I like the look of the rims...i may ditch the run flats all together and later in the spring maybe buy a set of 437m wheels.

mounting and balancing every season is not an issue for me as my brother owns a shop lol

442m are 19x8 +36 and 19x8.5 +47. you can run 235/40/19 square, perfect on 8", slight stretch on 8.5"... or 245/35/19, slight bulge on 8", perfect fit on 8.5". personally i'd go with 235/40/19 square because it is narrower and taller.

You won't after a pothole does its thing on them. In the fight between a pothole and a 19 inch rim with very low profile tires the pothole wins. Get an 18 inch dedicated winter rim/tire set.

I wouldn't be that concerned with driving over pot holes in the winter - assuming you're also using the same set or same size for the summer. If the road is bare, you're still driving over the same roads with or without potholes. In the winter, at least the potholes will be filled with snow. I'd be more concerned with the low profile/width of the tire where a narrow tire is more preferable (again, assuming the tire specs are different on the 18" than 19").

what about for a square 19 inch setup?

i did find a set of oem sized 19 inch staggered kumho winter craft wp72

so that would be an option if I don't go with a square 19 inch setup.

Likewise, running this size on both 340s I have/had. For winter, the 18s are a better size, IMO. Up to you, though.

I run this size winter rubber on my 440xi vert. Agree 18's are a better choice for winter.

Narrow 18s at that. Wider tires tend to float more above the snow rather than push it aside to reach the road surface. If you have an alternate vehicle that's better in snow when you need it all well and good, but there's a certain Mr. Murphy who created a law that deals with said situation.

Hi! Im also in canada and just swapped out my 442m from summers to all seasons. I changed to Continental DWS06 235/45 front and 255/35 back. feels great! dont forget to add +3 psi to compensate the softer sidwwalls

This is what performance winter tires seem to be good at. If you're only going to be driving on bare dry - but cold - pavement, that's what you want.

ya im only gonna do dry highway driving so i dont need dedicated 18 inch set. my range rover im running with xice-2 drives like a tank in snow storm conditions.

V rated 19 inch tire like the kumhos seem to be a best fit for me.

great info from all the members here though.

I use 18x8.0 square setup for winter vs the staggered setup for summer. The extra performance on snow tires is neither practical nor economical.
