I forgot mention the auto wipers...bloody useless + even in manual mode the car doesn't have a "wiper goes mental" mode meaning in heavy rain the screen isn't cleared quickly enough.
DAB.....no signal black spots just when you want to listen to an interview etc.. RTTI......bloody phantom traffic jams and green when there is a 30 min hold up....

How limited voice control is.
The system in my 2007 Mondeo was far superior. Not only could you control radio stations, dial phone numbers, choose between 6 X cd's and aux. You could also control fan speed, have the car go in to full demise, heated front and rear screens on with ceramic heater up and running in no time and of course cancel it. Only one mirror dips, would be good if both were selectable separately or together. |

- Dim ambient lighting
- Annoying cup holder cover/lid - Playing music over bluetooth can be hit and miss - Auto wipers are shite - When selecting reverse, and then drive again the parking sensors stay on for a while |

My car previous to this was a Kia. I had no DAB on my driveway. So I took it back to the garage. "Can't find fault they said". Back home again, no DAB. Looking on the internet I found the Kia garage was 200 feet from a DAB transmitter. The car had awful reception and kia tried to charge me another 300 quid for an external antenna. My F31 has perfect DAB reception on my drive and have yet to have it drop out even once so it has pretty good reception capability. So I would say if you find some place it drops out, it's probably very bad coverage in that area.

ROFL! My wife was exactly the same in the 320d, fortunately full electric seats has solved that problem!

My car not being as nice as an M5 Oh and the start/stop thing, constantly forgetting to turn it off and realising when it cuts out at a busy junction, also being based the wrong side of the Forth Road Bridge compared to my customers, that's going to be a joy for the next few weeks!

and, HBA is utterly useless. Doesn't dip for oncoming traffic.

What I find interesting is that what is a niggle for some is no issue for others.
For instance, the HBA is for my car, an amazingly accurate feature. Definitely something I will specify on future cars too. My niggles are: Not as much storage in the 3 series cabin as the 5 series. I wish they would have had the electronic hand brake too.. Not enough USB or 12V sockets. The background to the LCD display in the dash is too bright at night. The ambient lights aren't bright enough. The satnav can be weird, and a good job I only use it really for traffic and that last few streets at the end of the journey. The inputting? Dire. It is quicker to send a destination from my phone than to sit either drawing or turning. The voice is worse than my Jag was 10 years ago. But.... Still the best car I have ever had. Tried out launch control for the first time yesterday. Hoopy! |

1) The crappy cheap plastic along the centre console, that you can play like a drum
2) The door handle being shaped to dig in to my knee when I'm on cruise control. It's also metal so is cold in winter... so nevermind heated seats and wheels, I'd like heated door handles! 3) Having to oil my door seals every week to avoid them creaking. 4) The road noise

Heated wheels? Is that to keep the tyres warm?
I also have found there is a surprising about of road noise - even on 17" rims. It's not deafening but would have expected a car in this segment to be a little more quiet. Runflats causing it? It may also because the engine is so quiet you notice it more.

I don't have runflats so that isn't the cause, and I wouldn't say that my engine is overly quiet either, but thankfully the 6 cyl diesel engine isn't bad sounding. Overall though, the high speed refinement is the true area of improvement I think BMW need to make with the next 3 series. The other stuff is minor niggles, but if that was improved I really doubt I'd be tempted to look at a 5 series.

Unfortunately I have not been in a pre-LCI or 6 cyl diesel (or any petrol BMW since my 1996 2.8 Z3) so can't compare my LCI 320d to those cars.... but compared to my ex-Kia Sportage, it purrs like a contented cat in a box with the box in the cupboard.

BMW excelled themselves in finding square wheels to fit to theses cars, and then fitted bed springs to compensate.
They are not bad cars, but the ride/handling is the most disappointing aspect for me. HBA does dazzle oncoming traffic too, so don't use it after a couple of attempts. Stupid lid on front cupholders, what's that about? Having a twin exhaust rather than the much nicer dual pipes! Having said that, the wipers, bluetooth and Nav been okay so far..... Oh, and the auto wipers needing activated every time. Also, the bloody ventilation system won't remember its setting either, really stupid failings. |

After 2 years and a lot of miles I've found the lights to be absolutely superb to be honest. I'd suggest asking a dealership to check the settings on them first before you write them off.

You could code out auto start/stop (or at least get it to remember where you left it!), and code the delay for PDC to switch off when you go forwards to less time.
DAB is shocking, compared to a Vectra with factory fit DAB, it only gets DAB for about 75% of the journey to Prestwick from Glasgow, the Vectra gets DAB all the way. No DAB text function. BMW coding out instant MPG on BC with a software update, haven't found the code to put it back. No autodim driver's wing mirror. No adjustment on the autodim mirror (something I asked BMW about in 2001 with my E46) - for when the idiot behind likes his high beam, but it's not dark enough for the mirror to realise it! Slow BMW live - and a Streetview search that seems to take you to random places rather than where you want to see. Turbo lag (320D) - even with start/stop off so the engine doesn't stop, it still seems to think a while at junctions before the turbo spins up enough to get you moving - then takes off rather quicker than expected! Agree with the throttle pedal position, has anyone ever found somewhere comfortable to put their foot whilst on cruise for 300 miles - why doesn't the pedal "lock" like Peugeot so you can use it as a rest without accelerating (unless you press harder and overcome the lock - a nice touch!). No split fold seats or load through as standard. Having said that, we just had a brand new M 520D as a courtesy car...you think the F30 has a lot of plastic! Very disappointed, felt like a Japanese car in terms of interior quality. |
