I'm not in any huge rush was thinking sometime between November and February delivery finances dependant but thought I'd get the ball started somewhere and give the local dealer their shot first. Ah well Fail!! If you have his email could you PM it just to make sure I've copied it right from one of the other topics.

I don't think theres much in it tbh. To the point that it may make between 100-1000 difference from no spec to high spec in the level of discount offered but its all subjective. You should achieve 7-8k whether low or high spec, and options you deem as stuff you pay extra for.
But if that really bothered someone spending on a car that costs what it does anyway perhaps a Dacia would be better |

Value, can be very subjective for all of us, tempting to run away with the options list.
On the M2 for example to keep it lower cost and make it easier for me to cash buy I'm forgoing options I would normally have but have over many years realised how very little I actually use them. Heated Seats. On for literally a minute before, to me, they become uncomfortably warm. Electric Seats. Leaving these out as once my position is set I very rarely need to change. Plus in the M2 this saves quite some weight and the manual seat can go lower. HK Audio. Feedback from all is that its nowhere near as good as in the F30 and above. Leaving out all this saves me weight, about £1600 and makes the car a much simpler proposition. The money alone is a big factor. This isn't for everyone, and I'm not saying any of these options are bad. BUT to me the closer you can keep to the base model spec, yes the better value proposition your car is.

Yes, IMO. This can be said for many cars, stand outs, M2, M4 CP, Cayman. Loading cars with a big options list is just a waste of money and really only benefits the manufacturer.
A M140i, even in basic spec is enough TBH and an utter bargain given the deals available.

In total agreement there Chompers
The value in an M140 (and agree with the Cayman even more so) is keeping the spec sensible and getting the hardware for a bargain price. I don't think you need a lot more than prof nav and metallic on the M140 as I would go for manual 3 door. With discount that came in at £26k which is a steal. When I specced the Cayman as well I added about £4k of options only with a manual base car - bigger wheels, metallic, heated seats and nicer interior leather. That came in at £44k and ought to get £2k off so for £42k that is good value yet you see Cayman S's in showrooms for £70k specced to the hilt. I managed without a blind spot warning light for 20 years so don't need one now. I haven't needed to fold the mirrors on my 330d manually once in the last 10 months so don't need them either. and so it goes on. All these things are nice to have but there is a small list of new cars - Cayman, M2, M140 etc that are all good value in sensible spec

- Car 6MT in MG - Sunroof (essential for me, really enjoyed it on the m4 my first taster asfter all these years!) Still under consideration - Sun Protection Package (only option I might ditch, £300 maybe wasted here, I do like the car to keep cool though and do often change in the back of a car at football and stuff #privacy) - Folding Mirrors (multi functional for me, gets the passenger mirror dipping in reverse, I harbour dreams of keeping this car in a garage and they will need to fold its a single! plus yeah great they will auto dip etc) Sorry for threadjack

If you must some options help or add value:- Pro Navs Auto boxes Then there are the normal options that burn a lot of money Then there are M Perfromance bits that are genuinely worth nothing to the cars value, you need to try and take these off and sell them before trading in for example. Its a sliding scale but closer to base = value and a car that comes with 'all you need' is a simple dream car to order.

having specced up a m140i to 39k i am thinking of lowering the spec to more sensible levels and really having that argument with yourself do i really need it!
i quite like alpine white and hopefully it will not scratch or show up swirls like black sapphire. |

From the thread on BabyBMW adaptive is defo a good option and turns it into 2 different cars almost.
I have it on my F31 so I spec'd it as a lot of my drives will be mway slogs so in comfort will be better, its softer than the non adaptive. 39k is nearly every option spec'd - do you really need all that?! Be aware if you spec'd adaptive lights they aren't the dancing ones like on the 3 series, they just change beam pattern (eg low wider angle at city speeds like the VW system) and give corning movement. For me I didn't spec Pro Nav because really all it is now to me is a bigger screen, the Bus Nav does much more than it used to and its possible to add stuff on like RTTI. Also folding mirrors is not just about folding, its about reverse dip too. I would REALLY miss that having had cars with it for years and years...... |

IF (big if) it were me, I would be going with:-
M140i 6MT AWhite CRed or Black Leather SPGlass 5 door model Pro Nav M Performance Exhaust (best £800 or whatever value in the M Perf Range) M Perf Black Grills Fantastic car. £1000 saved no electric seats or electric dampers ETC ETC Totally agree that this particular spec is too basic for many, but really mow much more do you need. AND 100% that Auto vs Manual is very very subjective if you like AUTO go with that certainly. NOt sure if you;ve had an AW car before Happy but I love my 5 series. Looks very sporty vs MSport Glass Black parts around windows etc and cleans up great. Paint shops agree its the cheapest and easiest paint to repair too. Don't pay too much attention to us though, of course spec the car your happy with. I just try to think more these days how much do I use an option. £800 for an option I use once a month in winter could pay for a holiday PS sorryfor typing in a meeting on my phone not paying attention
