Air conditioning evap freezing
So my F31 AC has started to conk out after 30mins of driving.
The fan stops pumping out air in.a bid to defrost the evaporator. If your leave it 20mins it thaws out. There is allegedly a software fix and a space your can fit on the evap temp sensor but on pre 2015 cars (preLCI) but none for later. They also all seem to be on US sites and nothing on UK forums. Has anyone experienced this here at all?

Have you spotted some common conditions that this happening? Outside Air Temp, Humidity, Climate Control Temp, Fan Speed etc?
Cant say ive experienced it, but also dont use AC in cold conditions as its inefficient (especially when the engine is already producing waste heat!). BMW's automatically activate the AC when cabin humidity reaches a certain point and that has always been fine for me. I assume most cars dont suffer from this as the engine and condenser are very close together. BMW shove the engine back very far (especially the 4-cyl engines) so that residual heat wont be helping the condenser melt the ice as much. |

Hi,
I’ve owned this car 5 years. AC is always on by default regardless of season. It’s only started doing this very recently.

Low A/C gas pressure. Mine was doing that last summer, a re-gas sorted it. It's a crap system but basically when it gets low it ends up localised cooling more heavily as the sensor is detecting that the temp isn't as low as it should be, and then it freezes up something in the fan ducting. A re-gas was something like £60 from the dealer which seemed quite reasonable, and fixed it instantly. This is on a pre-LCI MY15 that I don't think has ever seen a re-gas.
