Key fob frequency
Does any one know what frequency the key fob is for my UK 2013 F30? I want to get a spare fob but see they come on different frequencies.

I thought these were dealer only things, as the blade that comes as part of it needs to be cut to suit your specific car?
So it shouldn't need to be your concern if you're getting the key from the dealers, as they'll give you the right one. |

If you pop the back cover off (to access the battery), you will see the frequency and all the other details printed inside.
Mine is 434MHz. |

I think the video on how to program your own key is next the video How to fix my BMW after you have broke it.
Most of the Videos are for older cars or simply fake key selling scams. Modern BMWs you need get you keys from a dealer. |

The blade can be cut by most key cutters or locksmiths.
The dealer charges around £200 for a key, a new can be bought for £40 on the bay. Car locksmiths can also program new keys if you have a working one already. |

Cutting the blade is not very useful. I can say the key from the dealer cost me £270 coded for my car which is a 2016 F30.
You could click on any link that says they can do you a key. I phoned a few and even though they advertised key for my car it turned out they could not code it. Sadly or gladly i'm not sure which its hard to get a working key for newer cars. |

Changing key fob frequency
I have recently imported a european f30 with frequency of 868...however, the country it was imported to uses different frequency such as 433. And now my key wont work unless i point it directly on certain parts of the vehicle to lock/unlock and start igntion.
can you guys advice me on what i can do with it? can i somehow program the existing keys for different frequency? will ordering new keys with different frequencies work? or do i have to change the whole ecu transponder? thanks |

no, in some countries they use specific frequencies for other equipments such as alarms, automatic doors, sensors etc...as a result, if you have the same frequency on youre car, then it interferes with it

A dubious thing about buying a blank from an unknown source is, they then know where you live and that you have a BMW, unless of course you get someone else to order it and have it sent to them, especially if they don't have a car

Key programming
Late to the post but if anyone is still wondering about the possibility of getting a key programmed, the answer is yes.
I have programmed many F-series keys (spare and ALL keys lost situations). The only BMWs not as easily programmable are the G series cars. |

Is p1ss easy key cloning still a thing on F30s, or is it just the keyless entry (comfort access) models that suffer from that? I've been a bit paranoid with my 2016 Keyless start F30 and use a faraday pouch, but I'm getting bored of using it. |

If your car is just keyless start (like they all are), but you still have to press a button to unlock the doors then you don't need a faraday pouch.
The immobiliser will be set and the doors locked until someone actually presses the button on the fob. The faraday pouches are needed for the keyless *entry* cars, where thieves can set up a repeater and get into the car and start it when the key is close to the front door. The newer keyless entry keys go to sleep after a while which fixes this issue too. |
