I think the E46 is still a great looking BMW. Especially the 2 door.

Looked at new 3 but can't justify the extra outlay, cars are getting too expensive and depreciation far too steep so monthly payments showing a big increase
Maybe some big discounts coming. See £5000 off a stock car at TRL |

Still the front end of the G20 is a bit too fussy for my liking. Can't argue with that interior though and in all honesty the exterior is very much likely to grow on us all. |

Also saw the new 3 in M Sport trim and the new Z4 M340i at my local dealer - on Thursday
The front of the 3 really isn't great -super size conjoined grilles, bulbous lower sides, nasty diagonal downward crease from the centre of the lights. The rear is okay, looks like an Audi A4. The interior is an improvement, granted. The showroom model was in a dark grey, which was duller than dull can be -which really didn't help The Z4 is a mess of asymmetrical creases and bulges. Doesn't work from the front or the rear ... and those tacky trapezoidal exhaust tips!? 'Very disappointing to look at', was my verdict. Looked like too many people had been involved in the design of both, particularly the Z4

Are the grille slats not set to open when needed though so surely once open something can be unplugged or coded to stay open?
Still way too big and wheel barrows should be on the m340 only but we shall see. I'm hoping familiarity will work as the new 5 looks fine now but there were many discussions on the grille then. |

Anyone driven one yet? I've got a test drive booked for tomorrow afternoon. Not interested in the saloon, but it will help us decide whether the estate is worth waiting for.

Disappointed with design of new 3. I was going to order but asked myself why pay a lot of extra cash for something that doesn't look any better. Might drive a bit better but decided to move away from BMW
Going to extend my car for another 12 months and have put a pre order in for a Polestar 2. |

I don't know, assume it'll be the 320d or 330i. I suppose we are most interested to see if it feels a genuine step forward from the F30 in terms of refinement and handling as standard.

I think this comparison is a bit more like for like. It does make the new G20 look like a bit of a dogs dinner when it's side-by-side, but i'm sure it will grow on me and i'll end up liking it when i get used to seeing them on the road.

Yep, makes the F30 look pretty good, IMO - nicely proportioned without the MB C class swollen look of the G20

This comparison certainly seems to accord with my observation that the G20 seems to ride higher than the F30...

Something else I just remembered from my quick look over the G20 yesterday is that the interior headroom does not seem quite as much as the F30... Whether this is a lower roof compared to floor, or simply that the seats do not quite adjust as far down as the F30 ones (the height adjustment now seems to be a ratchet, like in VW's)..
For what it's worth, I am not so sure the new seats go quite as flat down as the old ones did... But it is difficult to tell... I also felt slightly more cramped in the G20 than in the F30... But, all this might be down to not really playing with the adjusters enough to get more than an approximate adjustment... Nonetheless, this all might be a consideration for folk over 6 feet tall...

In the F30, I felt the manual seats were adjustable lower than the electric ones...
