you need to verify the back of the front 4 piston front calipers to ensure it states the following:

380/370mm

the rear two piston brembo calipers are all the same M Sport across all lines (235i/335i/340i/M2/M3/M4)

I did the conversion as well:

Please read the back. the "caliper is the same as well as the pads" however the mounts are different (longer, look and compare the amount of metal from caliper to bolt holes) from the m235i compared to the m3/m4. This allows for a different sized rotor to be installed.
340mm caliper (pistons, pads and surface area) are the same as the M-Sport package but not M Sport Performance Package which allows for a larger rotor. It's clearly marked and I hope whoever searches for this in the future understands this marking to not get mixed up.

rear of M Sport calipers stamped for 340mm taken from the linked eBay listing previously:

You are repeating everything I just posted to me, but ok.

As I said the listing is wrong about M3/M4 applications just for the front. They technically WPULD still bost on, but you'd need custom sized rotors at 350mm (340+10). Brake bias would also be effected.

Anyway good luck op.

This is where you would be incorrect. You only need stock 335i/340i 340mm rotors with the 4 piston 340mm calipers (unpainted grey or M Sport Blue painted). The calipers will bolt on no issues at all and no brackets are required.

You seem to not understand I am talking about the 340mm calipers being bolted onto the F8x since the listing mentioned those chassis. Plus no mention of additional brackets in any of my posts. Reading comprehension.

Yes. the calipers for f80/f82 M cars are the same minus the ceramic option. The calipers I used are from an M4 for what its worth.

Can I use my current silver caliper backing plates or do I need to swap them to the M performance setup?

Look at the bottom row of images in this post. This is for a conversion from 312mm to 370mm. The part numbers for the new stuff are in an earlier post in the same thread.

Looking at BMW DIY Guy video, he uses the stock backing plates from his silver brake setup (which I have) so I think I’ll be good.

Just waiting on rotors and I’ll be set!

He used the M Performance BBK which is different from the M compound brakes. The only difference is the rotor sizes.

I understand. But what I was asking is when switching to the M3/M4 brakes (same as M performance), can I use the backing plates from my silver brake setup or if I need to swap them out. Based on his video and part #, I should be fine and not need to swap the backing plates.

328i would have a smaller backing plate. 335i has a big enough one.

Depends. All iX have the big bearing aka big parking brake aka big backing plate.
So do ePost 07/2014 rwd.
It’s only the pre July 2014, small engine, rwd, non convertible ones you have to worry about.

If you check real OEM and have the small rear parking brake then you might need the larger Backing plate. If you don’t, then you don’t. Badabing babda boom .

Bringing this back from the dead here .

Anyone know if the rear carriers/hubs from the F80/F82 M3/M4 will work on the F30/F31 chassis with the larger rear parking brakes already equipped?

Doing M5 front calipers w/ 400mm M2 Comp rotors, and would like to try and upgrade to the large M2/M3/M3 drilled 370mm rotors. I understand I can use the blue msport rear calipers as they are, since they are the same caliper as the m3/m4, just that the caliper mounting point on the carrier/hub is what allows you to run the larger rotor on the M2/M3/M4.

I'm just unsure if the control arms and axle size differ between an Xdrive f30/f31 and the m3/m4 which would be the initial concerns as far as fitment goes. If anyone else sees issues with fitment do to other items I'm not considering I'm all ears. It seems the rear carriers for M3/M4 are pretty inexpensive on ebay.

Just reviving an old thread hopefully i can get more info on the rears.

I did the 370mm 345mm non M upgrade.

Now i want to do the full M upfrade for the brakes. I found the company with the brackets to make it happen but its only for the front. Anyone have info how to make the M 2 piece rotor fit in the rear?

I found this screenshot on BimmerWorld that explains all the variations. I'd say there is a typo there. Is there a Blue 1-piston Brembo?

While I can see the bolt holes matching I am concerned by the fact that the F8X rear rotors are 370mm. If that's the case doesn't it mean the caliper has to be set back by 25mm compared with the M-performance rear caliper meant to handle a 345mm rotor? It seems if a 345 mm rotor is mounted, the F8X rear caliper brake pads won't fully clamp onto the smaller rotor. It seems it would only clamp onto a part of it.

Hi Eschmacher I have a few questions about your setup. For the rear, the F8x uses a 370mm rotor but the F3X optionally uses up to a 345mm rotor. When you bolted on the F8x caliper, did the pad cover the rotor completely? The F8x caliper is expecting the rotor to be 370mm, but if it's only 345mm wouldn't the rotor be too small? What was your experience?

Yes, it works perfectly. In fact, if you look up the caliper part number for the rear on the F8X, it is the same for any F3X car with the S2NHA option.

The bolt holes for the rear calipers are further inward on the F3X hubs than on the F8X. This is why they work with the smaller rotors.

Thanks for the reply. With the bolt hole location changing, that makes sense. It's going to be a lot easier to change bolt hole locations and source 50,000 examples of the same part rather than having to source multiple variations of what is essentially the same part. For programming, did you have to tell the car the rear rotor was 345/24?

As for parts, I noticed that on the pre-LCI M3 (up to 2015) the left and right part numbers are 34216799461 and 34216799462, the same as on S2NHA optioned cars. On LCI cars, the part number are 34218046261 and 34218046262. Clearly there was a change but what did not change was the rear rotors on both pre-LCI and LCI cars were 370mm. How could the pre-LCI cars use 34216799461 and 34216799462 on 370mm rotors? BMW would have to change the location of the bolt holes, as you mentioned.

Wonder what the differences are between 34216799461 and 34216799462 vs 34218046261 and 34218046262?
