F36 suspension refresh
Got to 50k miles recently on my 2018 440i gran coupe msport
The shocks were far from worn out but I wanted a bit less roll and a bit more engagement. A friend of mine has two f30s and has been through many combinations so I listened to his advice and went shopping. The combination I chose for my daily was bilstein b4 as they are almost oem and a set of H&R sport springs. I used m3 bump stops as they are shorter and allow more travel. All other components in the struts were replaced too like tip mounts, dust covers and rubbers. I did not want much by way of lowering, I find the gran coupe low with the m sport suspension and I've lived with very low cars and personally I find it miserable. 15 minutes per side for the fronts and 30 minutes per side for the rears..Florida heat quickly gets you Could not be happier with the immediate difference. On factory 19s with 12.5mm spacers front and 15mm rear it's not even close to rubbing. I have 265/ 35 r19 on the back The ride is sublimely comfortable and positive. Turn in and corner flatness has been improved tremendously and the pitch and dive under braking and acceleration has also improved without compromising comfort. I will have an alignment done but it feels more planted than before and more direct even without one. Exceedingly happy with the way the car feels now. If a big drop is your thing it's probably not a good setup but for comfort and daily spirited driving its a great setup. Ill post some shots soon for those interested. |
