Harry's Razors
I'm seeing they are doing a massive advertising purge and even have a advert on tv now.
Anyone signed up for the trial? Or tried the product? I'm a Mach 3 man and get blades from Costco which works out to be circa £2 per blade. This don't seem much better but promises a better shave. Last edited by planemad; 09-13-2017 at 04:05 PM.. |

I'm a Double Edge (DE) razor guy. Been using it for coming on 4 years now and it's the best shave I've ever had with no skin irritation.
I buy blades at £3.50 for 10 and they last me long enough. The soap was £9 and hasn't got any signs of needing replacing yet. Loads left. The razor and brush can be pricey (mine were £120) but I should never need to buy another razor. I'm tackling straight razor shaving next!! |

If you get a decent starter razor (Edwin Jagger DE89/Muhle R89/Merkur 33c) with a closed comb head then its actually quite a mild razor.
I use the Muhle above and it took a couple of shaves to find the angle, the right amount of pressure to apply and making sure that my razor strokes were slow and straight down to avoid nicks. Since then, I really enjoy shaving. DE is pretty much all in the preparation and in that, it takes a bit longer to shave but I offset that with only shaving every 2 or 3 days to allow the stubble to grow out a bit. I find I get a better shave this way. I tend to wet my face with a very hot flannel too before I start. It's very rewarding and I have gotten a lot of my friends into DE and they all are very happy with their new kit a regime. I'm happy to answer any more questions you might have but for anyone looking to move into a bigger world of better shaving than just foam in a can and a Mach 3, I would always recommend DE. It's worth the investment in time, money and effort! |

Seems to me that 'Harrys' is just copying 'Cornerstone', exactly the same principle even down to the 'German engineered blades' bit.
Subscribed to Cornerstone a while ago, suits me, flexible on how and when you want an order & a good shave. https://www.cornerstone.co.uk/ |

+1 on the muhle r89. It was my second DE head five years ago and still using it now.
Irritation from shaving became a thing of the past and the cost savings are relatively huge once the high startup costs are over. For those curious, it's cheap to try out. A cheap DE head and blades was less than a fiver from boots iirc, plus same on a cheap brush and soap. I tried that, liked it, then bought the proper stuff a couple of weeks later.

+ 1 on the Muhle R89 for me also but I suggest the R89 Twist version coupled with a stick of Wilkinson classic DE blades @ £17 for 100. This combo will easily last you between 1-2 years depending on how often you change blades......for me once a week

Based on nothing else other than my personal experience but I have recently had to change the head of my Muhle R89 Twist as the thread on the top cap stripped. I discovered that the twist version is a two-piece design which seems to mean that you cant change the comb plate, just the top screw cap. Just one to bear in mind. I also much prefer the Feather blades to any of the others I have tried but they are very aggressive for a beginner. |

Actually...if any of you guys are thinking of trying DE, I've got several unopened packs of types that I no longer or have never used - some Personnas, Derby and Lord that came from a mixed pack. Maybe others. Only unused because I settled on Feathers and a couple of other types. Happy to pop them in the post gratis to anyone that wants them...pm me.

Got a full stick of Feather blades for christmas a couple of years ago and I don't think I'll ever run out!! Glad I never started out with them though - they are seriously sharp!! Have also tried various soaps/creams - Body Shop Maca Root Shave Cream is nice, but found the best bang for your buck is the Palmolive Shave stick - Tesco stock them for 50p each and they seem to last forever - opened the first one in April, use about 6 times a week and It's still got some left!! - Lathers up really nice too. Origins Fire Fighter for after shave cooling

I fell for this shaving BS last time there was a thread on it. For many I?m sure it?s great but after using it for 2 weeks and cutting the crap out of my face I went back to Mach whatever blades, no cuts ever (unless I shave drunk) and a far better shave.
Just my opinion but I would bother moving away from the regular razor again. |

I can't speak for Harry's razors (I use an electric, sue me ) but I did try their face scrub and it is wonderful.

DE user too. Best move I made since I started shaving. I actually don't mind shaving now and now skin irritation that I got with various Gillette/Wilkinson cartridge blades and electric. I'd hate to total up how much I spent prior to going DE. That's a lot of beer tokens that have ended up in the bin.
Technique for using a DE only needs adjusting slightly and a little experimentation with blades from a variety pack to find what suits you best. Gillette 7 O'Clocks sharp edge have been my preferred blade. The soaps make a big difference too compared to using foam and I'm just coming to the end of £6 puck that has served me for nearly 2 years producing very thick foam. Wife prefers the close shave of the DE and little chance of her using on her legs too |

I missed this thread somehow, but I tried the Harry's razor trial offer.
Not all that impressed to be honest. I've got far from severe stubble so quite surprised, so to be sure I did a test this morning on my week old holiday growth, between my normal Wilkinson Sword Hydro 5 on one side of my face and Harry's razor on the other... No contest! The WS Hydro is quick, sharp, smooth. Harry's was not. Catching and pulling rather than cutting at times
