Your favourite Christmas song
Doesn't actually have to be about Christmas but can be a song that is synonymous with the period.
Mine Frankie Goes to Hollywood, power of love. |

Jona Lewie “Stop the Cavalry”. This was released at the same time I joined the RAF and was going through my basic training. It is an anti-war song but some of the lyrics resonated with me as I learnt to march, polish my boots and fire an SLR. It was kept off the No. 1 slot by a John Lennon song, he had been murdered on the day I took the queen’s shilling.

Can't really argue with Pogues or Jona Lewie for the top two slots. My possibly left-field choice for #3 is Step Into Christmas (Elton John).

Jona Lewie “Stop the Cavalry”. THis was in the charts as I was going on my first Christmas leave after joining the army in 1981. Some very found memories and some sad one from room mates that were later killed on ops. As soon as I hear this song I know it's Christmas and how lucky I have been in my career after 24years service un-scathed unlike so many!
