435D 3.0 F36 Electric tailgate / boot issue

Hi all

New to the forums, as I'm relatively new to owning an F36 (four months). I love the car, but this ongoing tailgate issue I'm now having, after my dealership warranty has expired, is driving me crazy. I have searched the forums and have found around three threads which skate around the issue with ultimately no outcome.

The boot opens, albeit by an inch or so, then it sort of bounces and can't open any further. Further presses to open with the key and / or the tailgate button from inside, simply makes it jiggle up and down. I've made a video / gif showing this:

I have plugged it in to ISTA+ and I have zero faults on all modules. Does anyone know what this looks like, or have experienced this on their car? I would appreciate any help!

Many thanks

Adam

Hi there
I had a similar issue.
Toke it to the shop and they recalibrated the tailgate.
Have had no issues since then.
Have no idea if there were any errors when it failed to close or open

Just for completeness, and if anyone in the future has a similar issue. I bit the bullet and ordered the only pair of these struts in the UK on eBay for £310. I installed them last Friday but initially wasn't working until I reset fault codes and re-initialised in ISTA+. All working fine now.

Im having a similar issue now. My tailgate has been getting gradually more "sluggish" opening and closing. It would open an inch then with another press of the button would open a little further, gradually opening to full height. When Closing, sometimes it would close fine, sometimes it would stick. Tonight, 15 minutes before a night shift, the tail gate opened all the way... and would not shut.

I tried to assist it closing but the thing seemed stuck solid. What I did notice, however was this: When I pulled on the boot lid, the right strut would depress slightly, like it wants to close. The left strut didn't. It kind of bowed in the middle (i feared if i pulled any harder the thing would snap in half.

Now, in my frantic race to get the boot shut before work, I just took the thing off. When I got it off i tried to see if I could depress it manually by putting one end on the concrete and putting all my weight on the other end... Nothing. the thing didnt move an inch. Its stuck solid. Which leads me to believe maybe the motor is seized.

Ive ordered a new Left strut this evening in the hopes it is in fact a sticking motor or a seized strut.

For the sake of clarity, no fault codes, Idrive settings set to maximum (doesnt make a difference what height its set to) its the same whether I use the fob, The button above the bonet release of the button on the tailgate itsself. None work.

The new strut is set to be delivered in a few days (today is 13th May 24)

Ill try and come back to update on whether of not it fixes the problem as it seems this may be a common issue reading similar posts on other forums.
