Remapped 435d towing weight.
The missus is looking to take her and a friends horse away for a day out. The standard towinh weight is 1.8kg but the double trailer and horse's will weigh just under 2 tonnes wpuld this be ok for a mapped engine?

As above, doesn't really matter about the power

The max weight is 1800kg for a braked trailer towing to max weight needs some experience towing to over 110% (illegally) isn't the wisest idea especially with a horse in the trailer.
Loving the idea that a "mapped" 35d could tow more.....

Has your "missus" driven a vehicle while towing before ? There's a lot to it, especially with that amount of weight, weight transfer, live animal, towed weight exceeding towing vehicle weight and max towing capacity. You may also have a legality/insurance issue.
All things considered, you need a more substantial towing vehicle for the task.

Also if your licence was issued after 1997 (and it's just a cat b) you can't tow more than 3500kg (combined) if the trailer weighs more than 750kg.

Also the nose weight of the trailer needs to be considered. The 3 series is restricted to a 75kg nose weight on the trailer, and a quick read suggests that most horse boxes will be between 100-150kg.
This would have the impact of lifting the front of the car reducing both steering and braking effectiveness considerably. |

As has already been said by others wisely: Check the stamped train weight of the car - don’t deviate from it, it’s illegal, Touringpleb might help with this, I don’t know how to tag him. If you tow at 100%, you need to know what you’re doing. I’ve towed caravans for years pushing 95% and never had an issue, but bugger putting a horse in that mix. If the horse box has a heavier ball weight than the car / manufacturers suggests sounds like you need a 4 x 4.... that’ll tow in excess of 2t. |

You're over-thinking this.
