Guys, do you by chance now what is the difference between n20 iX (AWD) and n20 i (RWD) besides metal oil pan.
Wondering if swapping AWD n20 with RWD n20 is straight forward (while keeping AWD components).
Thank you

Kind of an older post revived...but not a bad thing.

So in the last two years, have you gotten the 6 cyl conversion accomplished?
I live in CO, so I actually like the Xdrive and have had no issues so far. But have also wondered what it would take to do the 335d conversion.

What kind of cost would be expected and time frame?

How are you all getting away with emission checks after removing the SCR and DPF?

We have a visual inspection as well as dyno emission check.

Being a late reader of this post, I have to give countless credits to MissionPerformance team. Just like test pilots exist to teach other pilots, you are the very engineers to teach other engineers. This project is for the history books.

I need to visit your shop one day!

Which part of this were you trying to do? The technical side of this isn't really that bad at all, since there were already models available in rwd wagon (Europe), or the 3.0 diesel in F31, etc.
It's the physical labor for the swap that can be the bigger job.

"How are you all getting away with emission checks after removing the SCR and DPF?"

This is a very good point, the EPA has ramped up efforts and has been shutting down and fining diesel tuners that do these deletes.
You can get a very strong tune (as much as or more than these Stage2 tunes) done with emissions completely intact on the 328d. The exhaust has plenty of capacity.

When my transfer case inevitably fails again i might just remove it entirely, that is before i put up a fight with BMW N/A to do a goodwill replacement since the thing is on a 50k replacement interval essentially

I understand what you mean 100%.
If your dealer is friendly, you can recommend preventive measures on the next transfer case, all rubber giubo, plus spline loctite, and a little bit of moly grease on transmission output shaft splines.

Have them submit the case to PUMA, as it's really the only way that BMW headquarters takes notice. I'm working with a close friend at BMW NA to see if he can make them take notice.. but they have internal/interdepartmental bureaucracy too.

If you do decide for full rwd conversion, you can simplify the OP's process with the immobilizer programming in the transmission module, by simply swapping your mechatronics/module into the rwd transmission. It's the same mechatronics/module in both transmissions. Greatly simplifies that side.
Then the rest is esys programming that can even be done remotely.

I would take the 535d Xdrive engine and transfer case as a transplant. I would think that to solve it all. A lightly chipped 35d set up in this car would be so much better.

I have been thinking of that swap for a while. I have researched it quite a bit.

The North American F10 535d is actually the same engine as the euro 330d/530d, not the much stronger euro 335d. However the power potential is very good if someone takes the time to do it right.

The 535d and 328d engines are very very similar. Same injectors, same pump, etc. which would make that swap actually somewhat easy. Even the engine ecu is the same exact kind. (I may even go further and say that the 328d ecu can be flashed to run 535d engine. Experimentation needed.)

I wouldn't do the 4wd 535xd though, it uses everyone's favorite ATC35L transfer case as well.. although the N57 won't vibrate nearly as much.

I just had mine replaced about a month ago, so well before you posted that thread about what you found.

Wait how did they flash the VIN to the trans? Is there software that can do this now? I know xhp has a flash tool for zf8 transmissions but I wasn't aware anyone could flash the security related stuff like rolling codes and VIN...?

Security and immobilizer has almost nothing to do with the VIN, but rather the ISN.
And yes there are tools that can do it.

maybe someone would know if there is any coding/flashing required if xdrive would be removed from a manual car (installing rwd manual gearbox instead)?

You edit the typeschlussel in esys to one from a rwd 340i, and then flash and code the whole car. This is for a permanent swap.

This is extremely cool. Being a civil engineer i salute you and your team. Did you have any prior jobs to reference or was this build done on the whim ? Fabrication is probably my favorite word.

I was just viewing a youtube video where they swapped a Dodge Hellcat 707 HP engine into a Mazda Miata so anything is possible if you are willing to spend the money.

I currently have a stage 1 ECU tune on my 328D, if i decide to go to the next stage, i will definitely contact your shop. I live about 20 miles from Rancho Cucamonga.

Off topic: 8AT to 6MT?

Posting here since not much info elsewehere...reason for that probably!

Looking to get into a manual in my beloved RWD. Anyone care to weigh in on the complexities?
