Bootmod3 Upgrade from Stage1 to Stage 2 *catless (thoughts & experience)?

I’ve been BM3 Stage 1 for literally 3 days lol But I decided I want to go stage 2 with a catless dp! But I’m just a little skept since I’ve seen that one post where a guy went Stage 2 BM3 & blew his motor!😭 I seen he had 60k mil (mine is 27k) Idk if that matters but..

Any of your thoughts or experiences with Stage 2 bm3?

You can look in the FAQ but at a high level; stage 1 is all stock hardware, stage 2 is downpipe/fmic.

Every car is different for some models (328i) I’ve seen they require: High flow downpipe & FMIC
but
for B58 (340i) I’m only seeing it requires: high flow down pipes

b48/58 and perhaps b46 as well don't need an FMIC since they use a chargecooler. There are upgrade kits for those but they're not required for stage 2. Perhaps if you're pushing those motors on track, they might be useful but I'm more familiar with the n20 since that's what's in my car. Perhaps one day, I'll be fortunate to have some extra funds to do a b58 swap in my wagon

Yes, that's correct. B58 and its variants (like B48) don't get FMIC upgrade for the simple reason that they don't have an FMIC. Earlier engine designs such as N55, N54 and their 4-cylinder cousins had a Front Mounted Air-to-Air Intercooler that was sized for its engine power output. Too large of an FMIC could add turbo lag.

Newer modular B58 engine uses an integral intercooler that is cooled by the engine coolant and seems to be oversized a bit because B58 Stage2 tunes haven't had heat soak issues to my knowledge. Because of this engine design, the way to upgrade engine cooling, if it's even necessary, would be to upgrade the size of the radiator so that it holds more coolant to disperse heat. Wagner (and others too by now) make radiator upgrades. It's important to make sure that it would fit in your specific model. I recall uncertainty whether it would fit in 540 engine bay, but smaller models seemed fine. Hope this helps!
