DAW Turbo Reviews For B58
Hi everyone,
I'm looking to see anyone's review on the DAW Flow Max turbo for the B58 and if there is anything to look out for on these turbos. Would this turbo be more reliable in the long run than Pure800s? |

Also interested in this question. I'm probably going to get a Pure800 / 850 since that is what I see the most on this forum.

All the feedback I have seen says drivability is much more like OEM vs Pure and build quality appears to be very good. Tough to gauge durability on either as this is a relatively new offering, but DAW is not new to this arena.

In general, I think it's a bad time to buy turbos. Not specific to the turbo industry, but across the board:
Parts and supplies are hard to come by, so some places are using lower quality/more available substitutes. Guys with experience are leaving and that means overall quality of the finished product has gone down (this is especially crucial for these hyrbid turbos where they need to stuff the wheels into the stock housing. Pures are known to leak, just had another local 340i to me have his VTT GC turbo go bye bye, etc. DAW has a sketchy past. Someone just posted that their Doc Race top mount kit wasn't great, missing parts/didn't fit. It's just a bad time right now.

I bought the DAW as soon as it came out. The workmanship is very good. People have been riding them for 5.4s 100-200, which is pretty close to the Pure 800.

With that being said reliability depends on how aggressive your custom map is vs how much the turbo is built to handle. This is of course assuming that the turbo is well built. I recommend sticking with the more well-known brand for better reliability and support.

Just google DAW turbo N54. They are ebay turbos. Some work great, some last 100 miles. Pure is the most reliable one out there right now.

Vargas is a different case though, I think a lot of the bad rep they get is not because of their kit quality. As you know from experience, they make high-quality turbos. But rather from issues between forum members and Tony.

No problem. I'm hesitant on getting Pures due to how atrocious it is for you to take off your stock turbos, ship them to Pure, wait god knows how long while your car has no turbo, and then they'll ship it to you. (if im not mistaken, please correct me)

The Pure800 is now the market leader on the B58. But when you are on the other side of the earth, you will not remove the turbine from the car and send it to Pure and wait three months! Or pay $ 4300. In terms of availability and price, GC and FMax, and TS2, are now preferable for those who do not have the opportunity to send their turbo to the USA.

Pay for the core charge, then you don't have down time. Then ship your stock turbo back in the box the new one came in. Not that complicated but can understand not wanting to pay the core charge.

Pure is the best option, pay the core deposit and install the new turbo, ship back your core after. Get you some quality turbos with quality CUSTOMER SERVICE is my advice. Both Vargas and DAW has iffy customer service experiences in terms of actually getting the turbo's warrantied when they failed.

It runs strong and is fairly priced. It's that simple.
I would ignore people that talk about companies in general. The B58 has a good track record almost all the turbo options. The only one I see not performing is the GC+, but the regular GC is a nice cost effective option that does well too. Everything is going on sale in like 2 weeks, so don't pull the trigger just yet. |
