Mine pretty much lives in Eco Pro mode because almost every trip I do is a motorway one. I reset the trip computer and did this pretty crazy trip a couple of weeks ago - drove from the Orkney Islands (well, from Scrabster/Thurso after getting off the boat) down to Portsmouth with only 3 stops totalling about 45 minutes. I did it all throughout the night so minimal traffic, surprisingly no road closures and just an easy time of it.

I only have a 320d so motorway cruising is pretty much what it's built for but considering the crap roads through a large part of Scotland, it did pretty good:

Luckily I did the 1500 mile round trip before all this panic-buying imposed fuel shortage kicked in or it would've been quite interesting to say the least.

That’s impressive especially with that average speed. Have to admit the 20d lump is an excellent all rounder.

My previous E92 as a 2 litre diesel manual [bad mistake] and I drove to and from Newcastle and still drove a further 200 miles before it needed more fuel. The car was very economical, looked great in black with the M sport body kit but damn was it slow to pull away. So when funds allowed I replaced it with my current 430d F33 auto which isn't as economical but requires way less throttle to go FAST [age is no measure of maturity].

Yeah my next car is going to be a 330d or 430d most likely. I do 30-40k miles a year so need something half decent on fuel but want something a bit quicker. A 3 litre diesel should be a good fit without sacrificing too much economy. Just need to wait until the 320d starts giving me some problems to justify changing

Had another trip up the M5/M6 route again this week.
Did an economy run in Comfort Mode, very impressed with the BMW 6 pot diesel, great engine.
Mind you, once you start hoofing it, mpg drops like a stone, my overall average on fuelly is 38mpg, but hey a chaps gotta have some fun!

Eco poo.
Even less useful with the new mht b58 which turns off when cruising, in comfort...

Currently driving more and more in Eco pro mode in my 435i cab but I didn't buy it for mpg but the sound of the engine with the MPE and open top motoring.

As it's more difficult to 'open her up' on the roads driving to work, in Eco pro mode I get an extra 5 mpg so it makes sense to do that when I can.

Some of the results on here baffle me.

Yesterday, I did a 130 mile trip on cruise at 60mph and managed 58 mpg in a 320d in EcoPro.

Yes, I use Eco Pro if stuck in traffic, or those interminable average speed camera sections of the motorway. Or Switzerland, which amounts to the same thing.

I can never be bothered to work out my MPG or get around to re-setting the read-out before a journey. But I did notice last month, after filling up the car near Basel after an eco-pro cruise across Switzerland from Lugano that the car was suggesting that I could get 920kms from a tankful. That's 570 miles, which from a 60 litre tank would be a consistent 43mpg.

I don't get anything like that in normal driving. The dash says the car has averaged 32mpg since its last service, some 9,000 miles ago.

Would you care to elaborate on that statement..... I am genuinely interested on why this is so.

I thought city/b/a roads is where it would help most, where you can coast a fair bit.

On the motorway, I can't see it doing much.

According to this article, BMW believes Eco-pro can save 20% on fuel!

100 mile journey in my 320i in comfort and got 52mpg - not inclined to use Eco Pro whatsoever.

Momentum 99 up to 149.9…still a no.

Much of the savings are in the "driving habits" part of using Eco Pro. This was how BMW discussed it years back, when stating Eco Pro should encourage an energy saving driving style. The features 'assist' in the economy savings.

If anyone is using Eco Pro and driving as if they are in Sport, then savings will be minimal, if any.

My experience in trying Eco Pro in different BMW models, highway driving isn't where the savings are greatest, for obvious reasons of constant speed. It's all the other driving situations. Urban driving should save the most, as this is where most fuel is wasted. But for many that's where the conflict is, my observation, they don't like the more relaxed and efficient driving style.

Sport mode in urban settings, that appears a contradiction to me.

Wonder if anyone’s actually ever achieved this level of saving?

I certainly haven’t even got close.

IMO, it is going to depend on how an individual drives before Eco Pro ever came along. Then applying the full Eco Pro driving style.

Going back a step or two. Studies have been carried out on what is termed "aggressive driving factors" or similar descriptions. Drivers themselves can make a massive difference to mpg. Something like a 35% variation.

I see it this way, the drivers likely to use Eco Pro, are those who already drive in a more economical manner. The 'lead foot' driver won't use it, or will easily rubbish it, see all the negatives, as there is no change in driving style.

That makes good sense, a driver is not going to go from whipping around in Sport to pottering along in Eco-pro.
Sport is great fun, but I find I'm spending most of my time in comfort, and with over 300bhp on tap the kickdown works remarkable well!

Valid point.

Not a lead foot driver but realistically rapid. Probably why I don’t find much difference in eco pro.
