Bit the bullet bought 4x397s
So I've been scouring tinternet for wheels for several months.
Found a set in original condition although some small curbing marks and the worm as a result. Fortunately they have a set of RFLT winters.. currently waiting to see if they hold air. If they do I will titify the wormy bits, ignore the dings and keep them on hold for a bad winter. Really I need to wear out the tyres in my 19" whilst its still warrantied. Things I've learned: Original lacquer on these OEM wheel is thick. Really thick. Buckled wheels cannot be re diamond cut. (I bought an online e87 hub and mounted it to test any used wheels). Diamond cut wheels that are painted probably are for a reason. Diamond cuts loose the track width to a point the hub caps are no longer flush. In the summer I think ill remove the tyres, get a friendly TIG welder to fill the holes, and get them painted... maybe a bronze or a dark grey metallic. Or reverse colouring light inner wheel and dark diamond cut bits.. I'm currently peeling off the lacquer above the worm.. Will try a heat gun to see if it help peel off the unwormy bits. Still looking for rim #5 for the non runflat tyre fit. Let it snow. Well just a bit cause I've only got 3-4mm of tread. |
