Can I run without tpms?
I’m getting 20in rims and ps4s on my 335. Supposedly a great day, but Tirebarn is just being full of BS. Long story short them simply told me they don’t have the tools to get tpms out of bmws...
They can only mount and balance my new wheels and tires. I called bmw and quoted me 300+ to get tires off again, and transfer the tpms. So I’m just considering not running with tpms because I just paid 100 to get them mounted and balanced. Is that okay? As long as I check pressure regularly. Such a bummer. |

It is in the valve stem you need tpms valve stems I think. You will need at least 30 psi in order to use sport mode or sport plus. If there is no tpms at all it may even go into limp home mode. I would use tire rack and call the installer about transferring/installing tpms. They will need to be registered to the car if you're getting new ones as the batteries will eventually die and you can't replace the batteries yourself.

As for original question, the TPMS come right off with a metric socket. Takes 5 seconds or less. They are giving you total BS. |

Updates:
I scheduled an appointment tomorrow morning at another place to get the old tpms out of the oem wheels and put them on the new 20inch with pp4s... another 100 bucks well spent ... what a day. Btw I drove the car alil bit. The new tires are beast. Feels like I almost had changed the entire suspension lol. |

I recently got a new set of wheels & tires and I forgot to replace the TPMS from my 403m set to my new one. I still run Sport and Sport+ without any problems but the Tire Pressure Malfunction icon is starting to bug me out after like a week so I'm probably going to have to buy some new sensors.

I was close to not bothering with TPMS. It's really another one of those things that should never have been invented to begin with. I hate TPMS.
On the Subaru, it amounted to a small orange light 6 months of the year. Big deal. On this car ... DING DING TIRE WARNING DING DING TIRE So I bought the stupid sensors. And I am glad I did. When I switch wheels, I can't get to sport mode initially as it says something tire malfunction something, until I reset the sensors. I suspect if I didn't have them, it'd be in crippled mode all the time. (Build date was 2016/11). And if you have state inspection that may fail you. |

I have been running without TPMS for two years now, I just press okay when I start my car to cancel the warning and that's pretty much it, the mode is not changing

You really shouldn't need to do this. I bought TPMS sensors for my winter wheel set from Discount Tire for not a lot of money when I bought the tires to go on my winter wheels. My local BMW Dealership wanted over $600 for a set of sensors, Discount Tire charged a ton less each for non-OEM sensors that worked perfectly. Tire Rack sells them for $54 each and I'm pretty sure I paid a lot less than that (it's early...totally don't remember how much).

I got winter tires on my F30 when I had it for four years and didn't bother with tpms and did sport plus always and no warning ever came. It's not needed

I got new wheels for my f30 recently and they don't have compatible TPMS sensors. I've been running without them for about a month now, and have no issues. even went drag racing and the car doesn't care. I can turn off DSC, enter sport mode, whatever. I get a warning message every time I start the car, it goes away, and that's that. if you can deal with the warning light being on the dash (not a big deal) and the warning everytime you start the car (also not a big deal, goes away in a few seconds) I wouldn't bother getting them. just be sure to manually check pressure regularly.
