Oil Change Mississauga

My 2014 335i x-drive with 29k needs an oil change. Have always taken to the dealer who use BMW 0w-30 oil.

Thinking of taking to a local BMW Service shop who are closer, cheaper and quicker. Good idea? I’m also confused on what oil is recommended. The owners manual says “BMW High Performance 5w-30, BMW Longlife-01 or BMW Longlife-o1 FE”.

What’s recommended these days?

FE = fuel economy. FE oils are lighter weight to give you slightly better fuel economy. However the newer FE+ ones are even lighter at the expense of increased engine wear.

My 340i specifies LL-14 FE+ 0w20, but it says you can use LL-01 FE. When I was under warranty with the free oil changes, I had them use the 0w30 LL-01 FE instead of 0w20 LL-14 FE+. Now I use Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w40 which is LL-01 approved and change it twice as often.

Thanks. My last change at the dealer says they used 0w-30 with the part number 83-21-2-444-599 which i can’t find anywhere. Any idea what that would be as i want to stay close to that.

Probably a typo and it's 83212449994. BMW doesn't have different versions of 0w30 LL-01.

You'd be fine switching what I'm using, it's still LL-01.

If you are stuck on using 0w30, just get 0w30 LL-01 from the dealership. Or ask at the BMW service shop you are thinking of going to what they can offer.
