330i should be a naturally aspirated inline 6.

I think this is BS.

Good, the name plate 328 always seemed cheap sounding to me. 330 is much better plus 328 is already a fast car, should have been named 330i long before

Unlikely. Three turbos don't make much sense on a 4-cylinder

Srsly though, if you want to keep an eye on the future, look for a 5-series hybrid with a 1.5L I3 turbo, much like the combo that powers the i8.

Also the n55 again in the M2, but the 340i will be receiving the b58? Something tells me this b58 will be a snooze fest of "efficient dynamics", if you know what I mean. I'm really looking forward to the details.

Love the new 330i/340i monikers. They better bring a decent power bump if they're going to play that game and compete with Mercedes C400.

Was hoping for an M340i. I guess not this time around.

So they can sell another 4 cylinder with increased turbo boost for 10% higher MSRP than a 328i?

Like someone else already said, soon we'll be seeing 2.0Liter tri-turbo 550i. In 10 years we'll see M3 built 1.6Liter 3 cylinder engines......

So is BMW USA going to keep the 320i?

2 things:

1. I just hope they don't include the new 9 gear ZF. 8 are already too much steps for a sporty car.

2. If the new 330i/430i remain with the same 248 HP, and they use the same modular engineering for the 340i/440i, the B58 engine should have 372 HP (approx.). So in my opinion they will make it at least a 350 HP engine, with around 350 Lb-ft Torque. And for the 330i/430i maybe they will squeeze it for 15 more HP & Lb-ft to compete with the new C300.

M cars never get a LCI more than some parts that are moved over from their siblings like trunk handle and rear lights for E46 and rear lights for E9x. There are small production updates though throughout the life cycle of the models.

Miss the days when designation matched up with engine displacement. Oh well. Wouldn't keep me from buying.

I wonder if the 328d changes its name???

Also the info is so confusing, can some one explain the lci updates, specifically to the 328d?

The N20 is based on BMW's N-series engine modular design, so while the configuration (4-cylinders) is new, the modular design on which it is based, is not. My interpretation is that the N20 was a stop-gap engine. BMW had to move away from the N52/N53 because its fuel economy and practical performance (read, low-end torque) were being outdone by competitors.

What's the difference between B and N?

Better specific output capability, lower emissions and better fuel economy. That I am aware of, BMW are not introducing any significant new technologies with this engine. Rather, it is an evolutionary step forward. I'm sure if I'm wrong about that one, someone will be along to correct me shortly
Wow, the N20 won tons of awards for power and efficiency. Seems crazy to me they are already ditching it.

Wow and just yesterday I had an idea to use 340i on the vanity plate for my M3.

BMW's getting way too complicated.

I don't think the 550i is going anywhere. We might see the V8 give way in favor of a high output I6 though. There are strong rumors of this very scenario happening for the next generation Mercedes E500 (yes, even including the I6 configuration). If it plays out like that, I think its a fair bet BMW and Audi will follow. Toyota already dropped the V8 from the GS, and Cadillac never had one in the CTS (non-V, I mean). For this class of vehicle, the V8 may soon be exclusive only to the high performance models (M, AMG, RS, V, F, etc).

They just came out this month. LCI for the F30 is probably 12-18 months away. LCI for the F32 is probably 18-24 months away.

Those changes will make their way to the F8x at the same time.

That hasn't been the case in, what, over 15 years? More than that.
