It's not just what detail the eye can see though, ..the higher the resolution the more that can fit on the same size screen. The XS has a slightly smaller screen than the XR but the higher resolution more than compensates for this.

For me the reason I have an iPhone over an Android equivalent, is that Apple continue to support and provide software updates for the iPhone for quite a long time.

I'm using a iPhone 6s that is now 3 generations old, and it is still supported by the latest IOS, I get the same security patches everyone else gets. The same is *not* true with most of the Android phone, even the official Google something I had from work a few years ago when out of support about 18 months after I got it.

If you're comparing two screens of the same size but with different resolutions, the screen with the higher resolution (that's the one with more pixels) will be able to show you more of what you're working on, so you don't have to scroll so much.

The resolution makes no difference to that whatsoever!! You can change in the settings how large you want the fonts and icons to be!

I do get his point mate.

There are 2 perspectives to look at this form.

1) The same image/data on the screen. But it is higher quality on a higher resolution screen. (I know it's not technically the same image then, one has more pixel detail than the other) This is like watching SKY sports in SD and HD.

2) if you keep fonts the same eg something simple like Ariel 8pt, due to the nature of a screen with higher resolution, you can fit more physically on the screen. For me I see this on (young!) people with better eyesight than me in their laptops. They just have so much mini print information on a single screen.

@teaston I think you're largely referring to point 1 which I feel the same about in some ways. I'm not too fussed about high detail images on what it to me a medium/small screen handheld that borderline has better resolution already than my eyesight can detect.

Does that make sense, sort of both right bit different scenarios. Of course a higher resolution screen and in OLED is better but for some users it doesn't really need to be.
