Private Member's Clubs
Any one here part of one or ever been to one as a guest?
I was invited to one in Berkeley Square the other night as a guest of a business associate who is a member. It's called Annabelle's. I'm not easily shocked but man what an eye opener this place was. All im saying is wealthy Caucasian blokes on the wrong side of middle age know how to party. The place has an astounding amount of rules which they call "bylaws" which they are very selective about which ones are enforced. Here is a link.... http://digitalissue.co.uk/Publishing.../book.html#p=1 I thought it was a wind up when the person that invited me told me that although this is some sort of elite place I am to dress in a tracksuit but make sure my watch and trainers are expensive. Apparently it is making a statement being the worst dressed. It's supposed to portray you are well off and don't give a fuck. I think apart from a table of late 20's looking Arabs (the type that come to London for the summer with a fleet of supercars) with their ultra hot girlfriends / escorts, I must have been the youngest person there. Apparently they are not too fond of the Arab crew in there and don't usually allow more than two or three tables of them at a time due to "past incidents" whatever that means. Someone said to me "The difference between us and the sheikh's is that we are party animals and they party like animals." The rest of the clientele that I saw and met seemed to comprise of mainly middle class English blokes in their late 40's and above. I was told prince William is occasionally known to have "lads nights" in a private part of the establishment. One thing I really liked was that the food and drink was out of this world, and as they have a no taking photos policy and due to the type of patrons you are not surrounded by idiots taking photos of their meals / drinks and taking selfies and group photos where their faces are squashed together. It is a silly pet hate I know but I was appreciative of the fact that I didn't have to tolerate that sort of shit. I must say I was rather intoxicated by the atmosphere and environment and the calibre of people. I think instead of spunking money on renting exotica this summer I might splash out on a membership to this place if they'll have me. Anyway, anyone here a member not one or ever been to one? The company I work for used to have a casino in Berkeley Square, and Annabels was originally in the basement of the same building. I have therefore followed the move to the new premises quite intently - and have been given some details on the refurb before it opened.
Not my bag, watching arrogant rich twats losing money and shouting and cursing was bad enough. And I know Phillip Green goes there as I bumped into him (literally) when leaving the Casino one night.... apparently my fault even though he was looking at his phone... Exceptional food and drink though... PS not sure you will be joining, a waiting list and more by invitation than you inviting yourself... as I understand it! |

The only thing that concerns me is that not being a 40+ middle class middle aged English bloke with a bank balance bigger than my phone number might not bode well for me in this place, (Yes people racism is still rampant out there) but they seem to let some of the Arabs in so maybe I'm in with a shot. Food and drink as you say is exceptional to the point that my mouth is watering just thinking about it. |

If you can get in go for it, and in the not too distant future there will be a casino reopening two doors higher up that you can go to (no connection, new owners bought the lease and the licence, should be open in Jan I am told...) |

Not a member, but one of the traders at my old company was a member of Home House in Portman Square and had managed to wrangle a work do in there.
Wasn't anywhere near as anal in it's rules as Annabelle's sounds, but we met Noel Gallagher in there along with the usual array of rich English, Arab and Iranian men often with very stunning girls around them. Looked better than it probably was as an outsider.

Let’s get one thing straight - Annabels is nothing like the lappies Broncho uses.
Very grand, very upmarket, very discrete (there is a secret entrance and exit I am told..). The refurb was £60m allegedly. It is quality. Some of the people will be arseholes but money cant buy class or decorum.... |

Hmm, sounds interesting. I manage Gentleman's Clubs, how do these private members clubs differ? Do they have performers/entertainers at the club, or is it simply an incredibly upmarket bar/restaurant. I've never been to a private members club personally. It's more of a London thing, as the most wealthy clients will reside there.

Haha, feel as if I've hijacked the thread a bit with my occupation.
I've heard some private members clubs to operate somewhat similarly to Gentlemans Club's, but clearly Anabelle's is not one of them. Would be nice to check it out sometime though I work for the company that operate Wiggle clubs based on the south coast of England, they have venue's in Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth and Weymouth. I previously managed Southampton and am now managing Wiggle Weymouth. A meet at one of the clubs would certainly be entertaining, but we don't really have any parking near the venues haha |
