Strange sound F30 N13
Hi i have BMW 316i, 1.6L.
I hear this strange sound sometimes. When the sound comes up, if i shut down the engine and turn on again, the sound is gone. Sometimes i hear the sound and sometimes not. The car now has 97,000 KM. Next week i will put my car for the yearly service, to change Oil, Oil filter, AC filter, Air filter and Coils + Plugs. Anyone here can tell me what is this sound? https://youtube.com/shorts/ddLLg2a4qDU?feature=share |

So i was at the service, the guy there didn't hear anything.
Well, i don't know what to do, i didn't heard the sound about a week. Is there any way to change the serpentine belt alone? |

I didn't have much time until now, so i got the kit installed today. The kit includes the belt, tensioner and pulley. Fits perfect and took me 20 minutes. Thank you guys! |

Update:
Yesterday i heard the noise once again, but in much lower volume. I'm starting to think that it's not the serpentine belt. I replaced the belt, pully and tensioner. What should i need to check? |

Hi there,
the thread name just fits perfect to my problem. Short introduction: I recently found that I could no longer run the electronic oil level gauge. This always broke off exactly at 17%. A day later the message in the display "Engine - continue driving possible. Have it checked by service partner." (I don’t know the exact wording in english, because I am from Germany.) The result at BMW was that the oil pump was defective. It could no longer maintain a constant pressure and a solenoid valve in the pump unit was also broken. Chain and sprocket for the oil pump should be replaced together. In the course of this I also had the upper timing chain measured and it was also slightly outside the tolerance. That's why I had them exchanged at the same time. Everything was open anyway. All in all a pretty expensive fun. My Problem now: Since the repair was completed, the engine has basically run perfectly, but I can't get used to a different, new sound. It sounds like a howl or sing. It is loudest at around 2000 rpm. I don’t think it is a normal sound for a N13B16 engine. I've been to BMW twice. Unfortunately without success. Nobody seems to hear what I mean. Is there anyone here who has an idea. Here is a link to the sound file. http://sndup.net/nh3p Thanks for your help! |
